Owner description: Take a tour off Highway 99 and visit Fresno's best kept secret. *A hand-built network of underground rooms, courtyards and passageways reminiscent of the ancient catacombs. *Unique fruit producing trees, shrubs, and vines growing underground - some over 90 years old! *Ancient Roman architecture - arches, vaults and stone-built walls. *Underground micro-climates - temperature variations of 10 to 30 degrees! *Underground home of Sicilian visionary and self-taught artist/builder Baldassare Forestiere.

This place is amazing with the arches that were engineered by the developer/builder! I am so glad the builder/developer didn't have any heirs who were interested in keeping this place to themselves... its wonderful for the public to be able to see! We went in May just as the hot weather was approaching and I can see myself coming back when the weather is much hotter. If you want a cool alternative to the local water parks in the summer, this would be a great place.

My husband Dr. A.B. Falcone loved these gardens created by a Sicilian! We always showed his Sicilian relatives these gardens and they were impressed. What a "Cool" cool place to visit when the sun is blazing.

Fascinating what can be done with a shovel and determination. Amazing underground home that is unusual and functional. Fun piece of history to see.

Lots of reconstructions taking place this November 2013. The actual tour was less than an hour. Introduction was interrupted by prior group leaving.

I have lived In Fresno for 26 years; my husband all is life. Neither of us had been to the Forestiere Gardens before. A tour of this underground treasure is so worth it. It's hard to believe that one man had the vision, energy and fortitude to create this underground home so very many years ago. Learning and seeing the history of this place come alive was not just educational; it was fascinating and fun!
