The only good thing is that a room was available and I was desperate as all other places I tried for miles and miles were booked. I got one of the last two rooms. The room smelled very strongly of smoke (although it and all others in the building were non-smoking), The sheets and blankets had tears and holes, the cover on the box spring was filthy dirty, the refrigerator did not appear to work, the knobs on the microwave were missing (though I would not have touched food in that room), there was no shower head, the toilet appeared new and clean, but was not bolted to the floor. It's the kind of place you leave all your stuff in the car, sleep in your clothes and get out as soon as possible. To be fair, in the light of day, it appeared that the other buildings have been painted and had the roofs replaced more recently than this building, so I'd hope that it was just bad luck to get a bad room that was about to be rehabbed, but if so, it would have been good to hear that when paying. I had no other option other than sleeping in the car which, in retrospect, may well have been a better choice,

Room was large with mw & fridge, air-conditioning worked. Wall surfaces and bedspreads appeared to be new. Our carpet needed cleaning. Door had meager locks with exterior "Vacant/occupied" indicator. No chain-lock made me nervous "housekeeping" would accidentally enter (no do not disturb sign) We stayed 4 nights--Internet password only worked one night and was SLOW, almost worthless. Towels were shabby. curtains were torn; bathroom door had small hole in it, and the elongated toilet's seat didn't cover the first few inches. We stayed there because it was all we could find. Many of the rooms were much worse!

First, the positive:

Within walking distance of most everything that's downtown in beautiful Garberville.

The negative:

1. The room was dirty and smelled funky. Black hairs in the tub, dirty carpet and bedspread.
2. The maids appeared to be the adult children of the family living there. They used the local grocery store's shopping carts to keep the linens and cleaning supplies in, as they moved from room to room to clean.
3. The walls were paper thin and when the neighbors in the rooms on either side of us turned on the shower, tub or faucet, the noise from the pipes was enough to keep us awake at night.
4. The whole ceiling creaked when the heater or AC fan was turned on.

If you don't care about any of this then it's one of the better values in the area.

To be honest, it's a kind of filthy place. Both the office and our room had a weird smell, no idea what it was. The mattress had several stains, everything seemed very old, exept for maybe the carpet. WiFi was kind of slow, but working. Despite all we slept not that bad, but wouldn't stay there again.

I enjoyed the handicap room. It is spacious with 2 queen beds, walk-in curtained shower with built-in seat, hand held showerhead, A REGULAR SHOWERHEAD (something we didn't have in the chain hotels on this trip). Also handles on wall that were very helpful. I am not in a chair full-time and this room worked for me; also I was not traveling alone. This place is just outside the little town of garberville and the big trees. It was a quiet place to me. This handi/smoking/pet(?) room is on the very end, next to a garage used by management.
I enjoyed my stay here more than the holiday inn express handi room (though holiday inn beds are excellent) and certainly the super8 in gilroy.

They advertised "High Speed Wireless Internet" but it was barely faster than dialup at 100kbps. I spoke to the manager, who said he couldn't do anything about it and refused to issue a partial refund. Morrow is that from now on I will test wireless in the motel lobby before checking in. The rooms were cheesy and dirty with holes in the sheets and a battered dirty air conditioner. Best to inquire elsewhere in the quaint town of Garberville.

I stopped in Garberville when it got dark. Some of the other places were asking 30 dollars more a night for the room.

It's old, but it's clean, quiet, and the bed is decent. The night service is slow (locked door, push button, wait) but nice enough when it arrives.
