So we got a big tax refund and on the way home this is where we came to celebrate.

We love the hole-in-the-wall places in Little Saigon, but Brodard Chateau is a step up. Of course, the price will reflect that. But even so most entrees are in the $10 range.

The parking is plentiful. The restaurant has lots of dark wood. The bar is top notch. The service has always been very friendly. The menu goes on and on.

The papaya salad is a fresh, tasty starter. The pork spring rolls are a house specialty. The chicken lettuce wrap is out of this world. The fried rice is perfect. We have never had a dish we did not like. It's the kind of place you want to relax in, stretch out the meal and have another glass of wine.

You will find a lot of locals here - it seems popular among the younger set.

All the food we had was fantastic. We had a party of 4 and ordered the duck rolls, summer spring rolls, a filet mignon dish, and a couple more dishes. None disappointed and the wine was fantastic (a white Bordeaux). Would go again anytime.

I would rate this restaurant excellent for the quality of food and setting at a reasonable price. This place is the more upscale version of the Brodard Restaurant which is just down the street. Although the food is similar, the Chateau is not that much more expensive and is a lot quieter and refined, though I would not call it fancy.

We are great fans of Vietnamese cooking and are lucky to live close to an area where this cuisine is readily available. We often frequent little, hole-in-the-wall, inexpensive restaurants for specific dishes like pho and cuon. We go to the Chateau with our less-adventurous friends who are turned off by tile floors, fluorescent lights overhead and non-English speaking servers. Generally we have found their preparations and presentation to be more sophisticated and they do alternatively offer more traditional dishes.

On this last visit, we ordered the crispy seafood egg rolls which were among the best I have tasted and the unique summer spring rolls which were delightful. I ordered and enjoyed the shaken beef which is one of their specialties and my wife ordered the vermicelli and lemon grass beef as a main course. In both cases, the beef was tender and of good quality with the correct spices.

For desert, I decided to try and liked one of the Vietnamese deserts which are somewhat bizarre for Western tastes. My choice was a sweat bean desert with bobas (multi-colored tapioca pearls) topped with shaved ice. For the less adventuresome (my wife), there were various kinds of crepes. Unlike the simpler Brodard, they do not serve the French style macarons which are the equal of those that you would find at Ladurée in Paris. The sea salt caramel macarons there are my favorite.

The service was adequate for this price point.

The waitstaff were very patient and helpful throughout the entire meal, from answering the numerous questions to accommodating our large group of 10. The food ranged from pretty good to excellent. Of special note were the moon cakes and the tiger prawns with garlic noodles.
