Gardena Terrace Inn
Ranked #3 of 15 Hotels in Gardena
Reviewed 27 May 2013

The following is a very detailed review of the Gardena Terrace Inn. At the time of this writing, the Inn is rated #1 out of 12 Gardena Hotels.

My family and I got two rooms at the Inn for two nights during a holiday weekend. It took a long time to check in, as it appeared there was some sort of problem at the front desk when I presented my online reservation.

It turns out our “internet” reservations were not accounted for (we booked our May 25th arrival online on April 25th). In order to rectify the problem, we were offered a Jacuzzi suite (Room #301) for one night and then would be transferred to another room for a second night. Our parent was assigned Room 3A. However, this room was not marked and appeared to be a smaller, overflow type room. Also, we were alarmed to see an ash tray outside that room, as we do not smoke. Lastly, there was no telephone in Room 3A.

The inn is a three story building with parking on the first floor along with the Front Desk. On the second floor are rooms, a soda vending machine, an ice machine, and a small room for continental breakfast (size of a standard hotel room).

CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST:
Since the breakfast room is very small (only two bistro tables fit in there and smaller than a standard hotel room), it may be intended for guests to take food items to go. The continental breakfast consists of coffee, orange juice, two choices of dry cereal and milk, white rice, and packaged Danishes. There is also a water purification machine in this area. We were told breakfast would open between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. (no posted sign). The breakfast room is located on the second floor in a French door enclosed room. However, staff is willing to open the room earlier if you need to travel.

INTERNET:
Free Internet is provided by the hotel, and the username and password for the EthoStream service is very easy to access for laptops and cell phones. We experienced absolutely no problems at all with this access. Please note that if you will see the names of other people via the Network option, but I was not able to access anyone else’s computer (thank goodness) and I hope the same was for mine.

ROOM #301:
Room #301 is the Jacuzzi suite and is located on the western corner of the hotel next to the elevator. The room is very large, and there is a small balcony that faces Western Street. In the afternoon, the western sun is beating down into your room. With two sets of large windows, you will need to keep your shades drawn until the western sun goes down. Also, since the room is on Western Avenue, if you are sensitive to noise or the sound of passing cars, you may wish to ask for an interior room.

There is only one wash cloth and one hand towel provided for guests; you will need to ask for more towels at the front desk. The standup shower in Room #301 does not have a place to hold soap, so the window shelf is your only option. Also, there is only one towel rack and no other hook or rack for guests to hang towels. There is an exhaust fan in the room that turns on only when the light is on. Typical toiletries are in the room (soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner).

There is a bistro table and two chairs in the room, a small refrigerator and a small microwave. The table was not wiped off, as I felt something sticky on the table. There is no desk in the room, so the table will need to be used for that.

The closet for the room is very small, and our room had only one nightstand in Room #301. There is a light switch on the wall that enables guests to turn on the two recessed lights above the headboard.

We were supposed to change rooms due to the upgrade and we advised that we would be leaving around 10 a.m. and would move our items out. At 9:45 a.m., while were still in our room, our room door was opened with no knock despite a sign that said “Please Do Not Disturb.” Though the female manager was very apologetic, it was a good thing that we were dressed.

ROOM #303:
We were moved to Room #303 for our second night for the reason as described in the beginning of this review. The room is an average size, and also has a refrigerator, microwave and bistro table. The bathroom does not have an air/heat grate, so you must leave the door open for heating and cooling. With regard to the noise level, this room was much quieter because it was within the interior of the hotel rather than having windows next to the street like Jacuzzi Room 301 in which can hear street traffic. The closet for Room #303 was larger than the Room 301. There was no "Please Do Not Disturb" sign available for us to place on our door. A fire alarm was missing from our room but we reported it and staff immediately installed a new one within minutes of the notification.

All three rooms we rented had an “old” food cooking smell (rather than and old building smell). We always bring room fragrance when we travel, which alleviated the smell.

LOCATION:
In Gardena on Western Avenue alone, there are about 10 other motels or inns very close to this one. All of them are small, locally owned facilities. This inn is located on the side of town that is Japanese, Korean, and Philippino. It seems quiet and is easy to find.

Within half a mile is a Ralph’s grocery store, Jack In the Box, King’s Hawaiian Restaurant (The Local Place), Carl’s Jr., Del Taco, Target, Starbuck’s, Albertson’s, Chipotle, Quizno’s, Denny’s, 99 Ranch Market, Wendy’s, Sam’s Club, McDonald’s, Food For Less and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. One mile away there is a Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Burger King, and a CVS Pharmacy. Though there is not a fitness room at the hotel, there is a 24 Hour Fitness Active that is 2.7 miles away at 4240 Redondo Beach Boulevard in Torrance.

SUMMARY:
If you need a room specifically in Gardena, then this inn is perfect for your needs. The price is reasonable for what you get in this area ($70 per night). The husband and wife onsite managers are very accommodating and ask that if you need anything, to please let them know because hospitality is very important to them.

Room Tip: Rooms next to Western Avenue are noisier due to street traffic; choose a room closer to the interior

Wow & big thumbs up!!! this hotel is by far a 5* in local Gardena... I' live and grew up in Gardena and I have never seen an Inn, motel or hotel in the city of gardena so Clean & beautiful. The new remodeled Inn also offers a family type atmosphere. The mangement team/couple "Pankaj & Jayshri Naik" were very generous and hospitably sweet... they gave me a mini tour of the Inn & grounds and showed me the four different types of rooms they have (the Suite which i thought is appropriate for honeymooners w/ jacuzzi, standard room w/ 2 queen beds, Family room w/ 2 queen beds, large living room area, enough space for another bed or cott, mini kitchenette and lastly, Single room w/ 1 queen bed, nice large clean walk-in closet and microwave & mini fridge). and they are right next door to a local Hawaiian eatery if you R craving some ono'licous local grinds :-) I highly recommend the Gardena Terrace Inn to anyone visiting Gardena. The nitely rates are very reasonable as well... You won't regret it!!!

This hotel was the best place I've stayed while visiting Ca. The staff are down to earth friendly, accomodating and professional. I couldn't ask for better services.

The rooms are clean, AC/heating was sufficient, walk-in closet, brand new iron and board, 42" LG wall mounted flat screen tv, stainless steel mini fridge & microwave, alarm clock, large shower head with adequate water pressure and free Wifi.

Just incase anyone wants to know theres 6 recessed lights in the smaller rooms.

The mattress was on the firm side, which works for my back and the three pillows were decent.

The bed sheets were nice and white and the bed cover was modern and matched the drapes (It was really good to not see those old timey floral printed bed covers most hostels offer).

There's ample parking on the premises. You can park under the covered port or in the un-covered spots just pass the port. If you park closer to the office you'll be closer to the elevator which you'll take to your room. Once you're off the elevator you will see an atrium filled with nice trees and plants (this is also the smoke area).

Overall this hotel is great for the price and the service received was impeccable.

Room Tip: Affordable and clean

First time staying in California i wasn't to sure where was the best to stay, the main concern was affordability. My friends and I stayed 2 nights at Gardena Terrace Inn and it was great. The front desk service was excellent and very friendly, they told us where to go get anything we needed. The room was new, very large and had a full kitchen. Overall it was a great experience and I hope to stay there again in the future.

Room Tip: For just $40 they talked us into upgrading to a 2 bed and balcony room. Best decision of the trip, w...
