“More than just a winery”

Kirigin Cellars Winery

The Kirigin Family sold the property a few years back. The new owner has added a couple of soccer fields, a cricket pitch, and a 7000 square foot modern building for weddings and such to a property where the old tasting room and a couple of other buildings that look 100 years old remain. There are actually three tasting areas, but only one was needed for the few visitors who were there when I was. There are also tables adjacent to the primary tasting room, so bring a picnic.

Tasting of up to 6 wines is complimentary. I tasted all six reds, then the tasting room hostess had me try their signature wine--Vino de Mocca, a blend of an undisclosed (and changeable) red wine with added flavors of coffee, orange, and chocolate. Surprisingly it was not cloying, but still not for everyone. They have had the same winemaker for 28 years!

The wines are all priced under $20.00, with a 30% discount on the purchase of any six bottles, a 50% discount on a case, and $100/case if you buy more than two cases!! The wines were OK, on the other end of the spectrum from Robert Parker jammy fruit bombs, but a good value; basically decent table wines. Their entire smallish production is sold out of the tasting room and via their wine club.

The contrast between the almost ramshackle original buildings and the new building is stark. LOTS of parking. Bring the family and watch local amateur soccer clubs play free of charge on weekends.
