This place is amazing in so many ways. It is in a not so good part of town and in a building that looks nothing like a restaurant which makes it feel like an adventure. Once you enter you are greeted with great service and even better food. The onion pancakes are a must and make sure to keep the sauce for the rest of your meal. I love their Kung Pao Combo (beef, chicken and shrimp) but everything is good. Go for lunch for a good lunch combo.

My wife Lynda and I were in Goleta this week and took advantage of a chance to visit the Red Pepper Restaurant. We are so glad we did. Sue, the manager/owner gave us her usual super friendly welcome and a nice booth. You are handed a regular menu and a smaller one with the daily specials on it as well. You will be surprised at how reasonably priced all the menu items are and also by how you receive a number of free extras.
Sue remembered that I like to order the shrimp and scallop special which I did. Lynda ordered one of her favorites as well which was the chow mien. We also ordered a pot of tea as well. Then as we waited the staff brought a tasty salad and then a soup starter. Also some sauce and other things.
Both our dishes arrived shortly and were just as delicious as remembered!!
There was only one problem. Each dish was so generous that we had to take half of it home. So any time you wish a true China dining experience come to the Red Pepper! It is a bit hard to find on Orange Ave. but look for their high sign on the left as you drive in from the main Hollister Rd. You will find a real treasure.

This is a tiny restaurant, which we were fortunate to find through an Internet search, after a trip to nearby Costco. The owner, Sue, is delightful. There are several choices for lunch specials, each in the neighborhood of $7.99. A salad is included, graced with a delicate, flavorful peanut salad dressing. It is a light consistency, not like satay sauce.

Our meals arrived promptly. I had one of my favorites, Kung pao beef, and my sister had the egg foo young. It usually comes with a combination of shrimp and chicken, but she requested it vegetarian. Her request was pleasantly accommodated.

We both enjoyed our dishes :-) The juicy, fresh slices of orange, and intriguing fortune cookies, topped off a wonderful lunch. We will definitely return to this small gem.

Almost left once we pulled up, but trusted the reviews. Excellent food! Had the Cashew Chicken and Mango Shrimp. I've never had cooked fresh mango, and it was excellent!

The Red Pepper is tucked away on a back street in Old Town Goleta, and parking in the small lot can be challenging. But the food is really good at this family-owned restaurant and the prices are very reasonable. The decor is quite plain, but it is comfortable. When the place is full--which is likely during lunch on a weekday--it can be noisy. But you're there for really tasty food served by nice people who are happy to respond to your particular requests. IMHO the food is worth 5 stars.
