“Great for dog owners - and their dogs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

This pet-friendly resort is great for your dog. The owners are very dog friendly and the rooms have stone floors and sturdy furniture, no carpets to worry about. We had a terrace suite which is a two story room with the king bed downstairs and the living area upstairs with a powder room. The downstairs bathroom had two sinks and one shower stall. The room was on the second floor so the terrace allowed our pup to sit outside and look around. The trails from the property go into the woods and are great for a dog to run along. No poison oak or ivy or thick brush, just lots of tall trees and the occasional chipmunk for interest. Our dog loved it. The lodge has its own dining room and outdoor covered terrace for eating. The food is good and they have a full bar. Free breakfast is the typical continental style most hotels have these days. Coffee is available all day long. There's a pool and a hot tub, a small golf course and even a small fishing pond for the kids. They rent poles and there's a canoe the kids can paddle around in. (The only problem was that our room "card" key never seemed to work. We had to replace it five times in two days, and when you have just hauled yourself up a long staircase it's frustrating to have to turn around and go back to the front desk.) Overall a good experience. We had a Travelzoo voucher for two nights at $199.

Room Tip: Remember that the terrace suites are up a flight of stairs and then are two-story rooms as well.

My husband and I visited the Chalet View Lodge in March and I've been meaning to do a review since then. We had a room in the lodge but are going to upgrade to one of the suites or cabins for our next visit. Nice room with marble floors, comfortable bed and sitting area in the loft in case he wanted to read after i dozed off. Good food, great location, entertainment on Saturday night. We hiked a bit in the forest, went into Graeagle and found a new winery and a brewery. Very relaxing.

Room Tip: Go for the suite or a cabin with kitchen facilities.

We came up with our two boys,
What a wonderful place to stay.
One could stay on site and never leave, so much to do.
Hike, swim, golf, drink, eat, fish, hot tub, basketball and even more!
Great staff, but be sure to bring only friendly dogs!
Thank-you!

Room Tip: I liked the cabins, clean, a bit creaky, but nice.

Just returned from a long weekend - three nights. Learned about Chalet View on Travel Zoo. Accommodations: Very relaxing escape for our family including two boys 9 and 11. Stayed in Terrace deluxe room in separate building- to story large enough for 4 with boys on pull out couch. Would advise on these or the little cabins which provide more privacy away from the lodge where the breakfast, restaurant pool, check in areas border several lodge rooms. No complaints about our accommodations. Was nice relaxing on the terrace and looking out at the trees. "Rain shower" upstairs while cool did not do the job for us so we all showered in the downstairs. Room had small fridge and microwave. Boys appreciated wireless to play Clash of Clans but played mainly outside the all days. Grounds were serene amidst pines. Highlight of the trip for my boys was the small catch and release pond stocked with fish. They caught several. Bring fishing poles! Nice to float in canoe and several chairs for lounging and watching kids. Relaxed on lawn area on blanket under trees (bring beach towels for the pool). Also has basketball court and basketball for check out as well as badminton rackets. Horse shoe pit as well and a small playground for the littles. Path about a mile walk to the river where hubbie and boys fished as well. Golf course is a little tired really more for kids to hit around but they had fun- we learned upon check out it was 10 bucks for them to check out the clubs and play. Fire pit near the lake was fun to hang out around at night and meet fellow travelers (good idea to bring s'more makings). Owners were terrific! Very helpful and accommodating. Top notch. Some of the other staff could use a little training - very nice but not extremely knowledgeable but only a blip that made you say "huh?" Tip: bring snacks, adult beverages, breakfast items if you are early risers. Breakfast doesn't open until 7. Limited food options on site.Ate one night at on-site restaurant - wood fired pizzas good as was shrimp appetizer and sautéed mushrooms. No real options for lunch on site. Recommend Grizzlys in tiny town left turn just before Graeagle. (Follow signs). Skip the Italian/pizza place in that same town down the road. Dingy and food marginal. We would have been better off eating at frosty freeze in Graeagle-cheaper and just as good! We tried Coyote Grill one night. Food was good, chicken tostada huge, hubbie liked steak boys loved cowboy caviar serves with chips. Clam chowder there yummy too! Pricy though for the ambiance. Cute town to walk around and chocolate and icecream shop worth a stop. Coconut toffee was divine. We heard Longboards was good but didn't get to try. Had a wonderful hike around silver/bear lakes. Lodge has a hiking book for check out. Overall a rejuvenating stay. The only downside is that from the Bay Area it was a haul! 5.5 hrs in and 4.5 hrs back-not extremely pleasant with two boys. I would recommend if you could really time to miss any traffic. Then it would be 4 hrs.

We drove up from Reno on Friday afternoon and experienced a very warm welcome with a swift check-in process. Our first night we stayed in a cabin, if you have not booked a cabin here- you must! The cabin space is very well utilized and the bedroom was pleasantly large with a very plush king size bed. The cabin featured a kitchenette with all the amenities you'd need to prepare a fun meal. The bathrooms are cozy and the living area is comfortable. We took walks around the property and enjoyed a round of golf. Our second night the cabin was taken and we enjoyed the property so much we opted for one of their spacious resort rooms. The bathroom is huge! There is a neat loft with a full-queen size bed - we didn't use this extra space but it was fun to check out- our bed was again very plush and large- lots of pillows - which personally I love!
We had dinner at their resort restaurant and it was 5 star!
There is so much more to write but my husband is bugging me to take a walk down by the bon fire they have. Please check out our photos.
Thanks for a fabulous stay! We will be back again.

This place is on Highway 70 between Portola and Graeagle, Ca. Beautiful area and so nice to find this gem. Especially when you have been on a long ride on a Harley. What is especially nice is they have a restaurant in the facility. Also there is a Starbucks shop in the lobby and Starbucks coffee for the rooms. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the bed is awwwesome! Only downside is the bathroom is a bit small, but there is a jacuzzi bathtub and shower and all is very clean. The restaurant is good, and the server, Julie, was an absolute doll. That girl did everything with good humor and a smile for everyone. She was by herself without a busser and the kitchen had only a chef, no line, sous, or prep cook. While it was somewhat slow, no one seemed to mind because there isn't any place else to go.

We stayed at the Chalet View for two nights when in town for a wedding. The location was remote, wild, and beautiful and the lodge is nestled in the trees right off Highway 70. We had a King room with a loft and trundle bed that faced the woods. Friends of our stayed on the highway side of the lodge and said that it wasn't too noisy since the road is fairly quiet at night.

Our room was nicely decorated and spacious and had a high-end mini fridge and sizable bathroom with jacuzzi shower/tub. Our king bed was comfy although a bit soft. Some noise could be heard from the rooms next to ours at night, so light sleepers could potentially have an issue with this. Rooms on the end of the lodge would probably be quieter. Also, the weather during our visit got to the low 30's F at night and even though we had an in-room heater turned on to 70 F, it was still FREEZING in our room.

The property itself is wonderful and the lodge and lobby are made of a beautiful wood and are nicely appointed. We spent one afternoon hiking down to the river and train tracks and explored a few of the other trails behind the lodge. We also enjoyed smores at the fire pit and played bocce and a short round of golf (you can rent clubs from the front desk for a couple of dollars). There is also a hot tub and swimming pool and small pond that is stocked with rainbow trout. The free continental breakfast was somewhat lacking, however, and we had to drive into town to get a more substantial lunch at Longboard's.

On a random note, the lodge is heavily branded by Starbucks. Their logo is listed on the main hotel sign and they have a mini cafe area in the lobby where you can get your Starbucks fix. In the rooms themselves there are coffee machines and Starbucks branded cups. If you can't live without your Starbucks while deep in the Sierras, the Chalet View Lodge is the place for you.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the woods and on the ends of the lodge are quieter.
