“Quality and service!!”
Reviewed 17 June 2007

Lance is the man. This weekend manager will see you have everyting you need and throw in that charming smile to top it off. All of the staff are friendly and extreamly professional. Every detail of this place is charming and top quality. Yes, you can pay less at other hotels but you cannot get this level of quality and service. It makes a big difference in the enjoyment of your visit. My advice, pay a little more and get a whole lot more. My stay was Thursday-Saturday.

This is a very nice place to stay in the Grass Valley area. The rooms are all clean, and many of them are full apartment suites with kitchenettes and living rooms.

Two minor problems though: the beds are uncomfortable and the rooms are very pricey. Additionally in the spring and summer the rooms can get very hot without sufficient A/C.

  • Liked — the spacious rooms and cleanliness
  • Disliked — uncomfortable beds, stifling summer heat, and the price

This is a very good place to stay. The room was large, well-appointed, and was in excellent shape. Our room included a jacuzzi and a fireplace and was very reasonably priced. The mattresses were Tempurpedic mattresses; we liked them so much we bought one when we got home. The hotel has a nice continental breakfast in the morning and they have snacks and wine in the late afternoon.

The only thing that keeps me from giving this an "Excellent" rating is the fact that the walls and ceilings seemed to be kind of thin. We could occasionally hear people above us stomping around, and we could sometimes hear loud people in the next room. There was a door in between our room and the next room, and when I opened it, I could see that the hotel management had put a large piece of foam in the airspace between the two doors to try to dampen the sound.

Still, we brought earplugs with us, so our sleep wasn't interrupted, and from what I could tell, Courtyard Suites is pretty much the best place to stay in the area. I would stay there again.

  • Liked — Comfortable room.
  • Disliked — Lack of soundproofing between rooms.

We were in town for a wedding and booked a king room with balcony a few months prior. I was extremely suprised at how nice the room was. The bathroom was spacious and the room was very clean. The balcony was big and was a great place to hang out and eat breakfast in the morning. The staff were very professional and helpful. I plan on visiting the area next summer and will definitely stay here again!

For the price (145/night) and the fact that there's not much else in GV during a holiday weekend, the stay was nice. We had a regular double room but the heat didn't work very well and even though it was late November they had not put on much more than Springtime blankets. I actually brought over a family quilt to put on the bed while we were there just to stay warm. The rooms are nice, comfortable, BIG but starting to show some signs of age. ex. doors to the bathroom weren't properly on track and when we put them there they did not close all the way or easily.

Overall, we had a good stay...for 20 bucks less a night I would have said a great stay. Unfortunately, there aren't many other nice options in GV so they have cornered the market on the upper-middle range.

No Victorian charm nor modern elegance here. It's like staying in a well equipped suburban house. The suite was huge though. The linen was good quality. The kitchen had everything we needed. The staff was incredibly helpful and everything was meticulously clean. To us, this was way more confortable than staying in a cutesy pie B&B. They provide a continental breakfast which is ho hum but they serve a local and excellent coffee. This coffee is also provided--in generous quantity--along with fresh half and half, in the room. We travel to Gold Rush Country several times a year and have stayed just about every place there is to stay but we're utterly sold on the Courtyard Suites and will search no further.

Stayed here on a busy weekend. (holiday)
had originally tried for two nights...got one, and was put on the waiting list for the second night.
They did call and offer us a second night a few days before our stay but we had made other plans in the interim. WISH WE'D STAYED!!!

Flight was delayed incredibly so we checked in at 1:00AM. We called ahead to let them know how late we'd be and they said just to ring the bell. We didnt have to, they were up and at the desk with 'a light on' for us.

The grounds were really nice. Set up to look somewhat like condominiums, so that each room had its own entrance. Lots of grassy areas, which is great since they are a DOG FRIENDLY hotel, and they look new, so everything is wonderfully clean.

They had a FULLY stocked refrigerator...robes...great coffee in room! and a wonderful little honor 'basket'. Lots of wonderful soaps and amenities.
They had a complimentary continental breakfast in the AM and a seasonally heated pool (we didnt have time to use. :(. )

Even had a personalized welcome letter and chocolates waiting in the room when we arrived. (nice touch)
The guest book had a wonderful tourism section and I asked the front desk to copy it...they did...SMILING even! :) They even had a local kennel listed to board your doggie for the day!

Though we had initially planned to bring our dog, and ended up not, they had a bowl, a blanket and a 'bome' (as our 2 year old called it.) in the room waiting for her.

The staff was really wonderful.
Cant WAIT to stay here again for a week or so would be great!

They rank far above the 'luxury' hotel I stayed at the week prior. They really combined the B&B atmosphere with a small hotel atmosphere VERY well.

They are VERY close to downtown shops and food (walking distance) and in the heart of gold country...so lots of recreation nearby.
