“True Mountain Retreat”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Located close to Hetch Hetchy reservoir (San Francisco water supply with a very interesting history) this resort has wonderful cabins and a restaurant with excellent food in a rustic setting. Yosemite is a short drive. The valley floor and scenic sights are about 20 miles away. The historic Rim Fire burned around this resort and left it as an oasis right in the middle. This is definitely a treat for the worn and weary city dweller.

“Worth going the distance”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

This place was quite a pleasant surprise, well worth the 7 miles off the beaten path. It has a rugged lodge ambiance, complete with fireplace and bean ceilings, though we were in the bar because the restaurant itself was closed that night. They had a very interesting menu with a lot of variety and price range. The bartender also served as our waiter. He was very knowledgeable and informative about various drinks they serve, several unique to the Evergreen. There were four in our party, each ordered a different entre. The half slab of pork ribs was very generous. The BBQ sauce had a bean base to it. Tasted great and was not too sweet. The cole slaw served with it was really good. Another had a vegetarian roasted garlic pasta. It was excellent. Two others had salmon on rice and an Angus burger. Both were quite happy with their meals. I heard the chef is new, but had been their sous chef previously. Seems like he is doing a great job and the staff with him were great too and proud of their work. Amazing how busy they were for a Sunday night in March.

Very nice service and good food. The portions are huge and there was a big selection for vegetarians too.

“Delightful Resident fisherman was our server.”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Looking a lot like a Wisconsin Northwoods property, this restaurant exceeds expectations. We ate on the patio (a very popular choice, it is packed from opening until very late). Our server was an avid fisherman and was more than happy to share his fish tales with us and give us a bit of local color. Lovely. The food was unexpectedly good, considering the remote location of the lodge. We shared the House Smoked Trout & Purple Kale Salad (this was more than enough for two people) and the Pan seared pork tenderloin (which was just a bit over done, but still tasty).

Service was friendly and attentive. Duck risotto and trout salad were highlights while the kids enjoyed their meals as well.
