“A good alternative to staying in Yosemite.”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

This is a nice small old style hotel on the road to Yosemite. It takes about an hour to get to Yosemite valley from Groveland.

The hotel is an old building and as result the rooms are rather compact, they are perfectly comfortable with a real bath, not the standard US hotel shower trays.

The hotel has a restaurant attached which provided some interesting options.

Going to Yosemite this summer? 'm more than happy to tell you that I had a fantastic experience recently before I even arrived at that beautiful place. If your driving up route 120, don't just drive through the little town of Groveland , please stop and have dinner at Hotel Charlotte or better yet, stay over night. It's a cute little blue place that looks like it belongs in an old western movie. So I settled on a table expecting a so-so hamburger until I picked up the menu. What? Are you kidding me? Scallops, lamb, real vegetables locally grown? I have never tasted such an imaginative combination of spices and herbs in my life. Spain, Morocco, oh no, Groveland, CA, that's where the cuisine is superior to many fine restaurants and the Wonka like chef is truly unique in his knowledge of great food. Don't miss it.

Room Tip: Up stairs is a better choice, preferably in the back. Or there are Condos on a different site that a...

Hotel Charlotte is a cute, well appointed historic hotel. The staff is welcoming and very knowledgeable of things to do in the area. But the real reason to stay here is the Bistro. Amazing ambiance; friendly, fun staff with fresh, local inspired food in a town of pizza and burger joints. We ate here all three nights staying at the Charlotte. Some reviews have mentioned the price being high; but being close to Yosemite raises demand and overall rates. We found this to be one of the best deals in the area.

One of the reasons I chose this hotel was the great review and rating on tripadvisor. Not sure if I missed something, but I didn't understand the rationale for the 88% rating. My friend and I paid more for this hotel than any of the hotels we stayed at during our California road trip. I think the cost is for the location more than anything. Our room had two twin beds - one with a frame, one on a cot, in a room that was about 9' x 9'. There was hardly enough room for our 2 suitcases. Positive features included the free wifi, breakfast (although not hot), and the - I hate to say it - 'older' staff member who was both kind and helpful. Negative aspects included the room size, lack of amenities (need to ask for a hair dryer, iron), and lack of security (no one is employed to work after 9pm). It's also a bit loud due to the nearby bars, and a little musty smelling and the carpet could use a wash. I think some of the other staff should take a lesson from the friendly lady who works there by saying hello to the guests and pretending they like their job. A friendly smile and a hello would help to match the price with the value. Finally, be aware that the hotel is 45 mins to 1h from Yosemite village.

Had such a great experience with stay and staff. This is the perfect "pit stop" after a long day of driving. The food was amazing and the staff were exceptional. You can hang out on the balcony and enjoy a glass of wine with dinner while watching the local goings on. The beds and rooms are very clean and comfortable and the owners are always on staff to help with anything that might come up. Will definitely make this our go to hotel for future visits!

Room Tip: Rooms off the main road are quieter, or you can rent a condo that is off the main premises for total...

Thoroughly enjoyed the 3 day stay at one of the condos rented out by Hotel Charlotte. Would have preferred a better wifi, but honestly, the poor connection wasn't a deal breaker, since this wasn't a business trip.

excellent service, and kind staff. A bit pricey but we didn't have many options. We got in quite late after a day of hiking, and we got the last room available. .The tavern across the street was pretty loud with a live band playing, but at least they sounded pretty good. They wrapped up around 1am, and shortly thereafter, a very drunk lady started trying to open our door with her keys. I got up and explained to her that this was indeed not her room, and she stumbled on her way. My point in mentioning this is that the door locks do work properly. The breakfast was also great, and the other guests seemed quite friendly.
