We were travelling to Mammoth Lakes from San Fran with our 4 month old and struggling to find somewhere to stay at late notice for one night to break our long car journey. After a rude encounter with another local establishment regarding our daughter, we were so pleased and relieved when Jenn said that not only would they happily welcome our family but could offer us accommodation in a separate area. This meant we had our own space and weren't worrying about disturbing other guests. We had a delicious meal at the restaurant with great local beer, wine and cocktails. All the staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel was clean and tastefully decorated and the general feel and attitude of the place were exactly what we were looking for. I can't praise this place enough, and thank Jenn for her kind and pleasant attitude.

We loved the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were very helpful. We would love to stay again as we felt we didn't have enough time to explore the area. We didn't eat at the hotel for dinner, however breakfast was lovely.

We were looking forward to stopping at this hotel as the reviews were mainly favourable. However, we were very disappointed. We stayed at one of their guest houses which is about 10 minutes drive from the Hotel Charlotte. We stayed at the Lavender Guest House which on first viewing looked quite impressive but after a while we realised it was actually very dirty. It is a 3-bedroomed, 3-bathroomed house. The beds were probably the most uncomfortable beds we've ever slept on and the bedding, especially the bed covers, were grubby. The bathrooms were clean but the floors throughout the house were very grimy. The kitchen table and oven hob had the remnants of the previous occupants dinner on it and the oven was absolutely filthy. There was a naked wire hanging over the oven hob (didn't matter because there was no way we were going to use the oven) and there was a plug socket hanging out of one of the bedroom walls. None of the outdoor lights worked and only half of the indoor lights worked. One of the toilets was blocked and ended up flooding one of the bathrooms. We were so disappointed because with a bit of TLC the house could have been beautiful. We did inform the patron of the problems but she was very non-committal. We had dinner once at the Charlotte which was very good but expensive so we went to the Mexican next door which was very good and cheap! The breakfasts were awful at the hotel so we went to the coffee house next door where we had the best breakfast ever! Groveland is conveniently located for Yosemite so Hotel Charlotte and its guest houses will still attract clientele. Unsurprisingly, would not recommend!

I found this on the internet. Seemed to fit the bill - only 30 minutes from Yosemite. It is a quaint Victorian style hotel with a porch balcony overlooking the street. The rooms were clean and comfortable - nothing fancy. The surprise was when we went to dinner. We had gourmet fare. All of us ordered something different and each was exquisite. The mixed drinks were also exceptional (watch out for the habanero tequila!). We enjoyed talking to the staff who were friendly and engaging. My friend and I were on a four week trip and Hotel Charlotte was at the top of our list with one other place. The owners have truly created a diamond in the rough.

My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Charlotte in May 2014. It is a cute Victorian style hotel in a small town outside Yosemite. Our room was clean but small with an eclectic mix of furniture. There was only one dresser with 3 drawers... so not a whole lot of room if you wanted to unpack. No safe/microwave/kettle/fridge. Ice is available for free if you want it. I thought it might be loud but the room was pleasantly quiet. Hair dryers are available at the front desk. Morning breakfast was delicious and a wide variety of options were available (cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, coffee, tea, juice...). The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you plan on showing up later than 9pm be sure to call ahead to arrange a way to pick up your key. While this hotel is 30mins from the entrance to Yosemite be advised it is another 30mins to the Yosemite Village.

We've made three trips to the Yosemite area over the past three years. Each time, we've made sure to spend as much time as possible dining at the Hotel Charlotte. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is tons of fun.

(Just to be clear: We haven't yet stayed the night here -- we stay with friends when we're in the area -- but the rooms we've seen seem clean and charming.)

The owners know their stuff. We live in Portland, Oregon, which is a haven for foodies. Hotel Charlotte would hold up well in this town.

First off, the wine list is fantastic. Lots of delicious local varietals. Plus, the mixed drinks are perfect. Great way to start a meal. And the meals themselves? Delicious! We've tried just about everything on the dinner menu and have never been disappointed. (The desserts are great too.)

Perhaps our favorite part of the Hotel Charlotte, though, is interacting with the staff. Everyone is friendly and fun. We like to sit at the bar and talk with the owners and employees...AND the locals who seem to frequent this place.

We'll definitely be back whenever we're in the area.
