Loved this little place! Good food and nice bartender! Even left a dollar in the ceiling like many others before us!

Quaint old place in downtown Groveland. They have the old fashion saloon and nice dinning room with the same menu, prices, staff and kitchen. Service was a bit slow on three visits. Food was good but not outstanding (typical grill stuff). They take all major credit cards. They have lots of parking across the street. The dinning room seemed to have some AC, the saloon did not. They have live music on the weekend... and clear out some tables for dancing. Secret: on the left side of the building is a great, and tiny ice cream shop with a reasonable selection and OK portions. This is on one of the routes to Yosemite, and likes tourists.

We were intrigued when we saw the "oldest California saloon" sign out front, and decided to check it out. The floors looked about 100 years old, and that was probably the last time anyone cleaned the place.

We ordered various burgers for dinner and a couple of beers. The beers were cold, and the food was hot. Other than that, nothing special. We ordered the burgers medium and they were well-done. The rolls looked like the cheap store brand you can get at the local market. A customer sitting across from us was very disappointed with her meal, and she was screaming at the manager about how to cook a burger. Ours weren't that bad, but who goes out to a restaurant to eat food that "wasn't bad".

If you want to see the self-proclaimed oldest saloon in California, go in for a quick drink. Then walk across the street to one of the other restaurants in town.

A very authentic gold rush kind of place with good food, varieties of beer, and very fine service. We enjoyed taking a break several times during our week in Yosemite to enjoy the Iron Door.

My husband and I had lunch at the Iron Door Grill on a whim. What we experienced was a wonderful meal. He had their Fish and Chips. They were not the minced frozen fare that can be typical at many restaurants. They were four large tasty pieces of fish with a delicious tarter sauce and french fries. The fries and fish were not the least bit greasy but nice and crisp.
I had the Golden Gate sandwich. It consisted of layers of turkey, mozzarella cheese, avocado and a dressing. The outside of the sourdough bread was covered in grilled parmesan. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Also included in my meal was homemade chips that were fried to perfection.
We each had one of their Grizzley Dark Ale's as our beverage. It was creamy, strong, with no hint of telltale bitterness at the end.
When we return to this area we will definitely dine here again.
