We visited Yosemite a short while after a large fire in the area. When we arrived, we could still smell burnt pine and trees. You could see the devastation of the fire in the area. Luckily, the heroic firefighters stopped the flames from getting too near to this wonderful hotel. In fact, I am told that the hotel housed folks working on containing the fire, and they gave up their pool water for firefighting purposes.
The rooms were spacious enough for a family of 3 adults. There is a restaurant just a hop, skip, and jump away from the hotel (Buck Meadows Restaurant). The restaurant had enough variety that we had dinner there every night of the trip. The hotel has a YART stop, but I would highly recommend renting a car to see Yosemite. It's about a 30-45 minute drive from Westgate Lodge to the Yosemite Valley. This is as close as you can stay to the park on the west side without actually staying in the park. There is a convenience store with a gas station just a few minutes away from the hotel, and Groveland's Main Street is about 11 miles west of the hotel. The hotel also has free WiFi and coin operated laundry facilities.
The money savings of staying at this hotel as compared to staying within the park is pretty significant. Great value.More
