Stayed at Yosemite Lodge in early October, during the government shutdown. Rooms were newly updated and very clean and comfortable. Check-in and out was quick and easy, everyone very pleasant. Although the park was closed, this hotel is close to the entrance. Ate at the restaurant next door several times. Food was excellent and staff is very friendly. Very happy with our stay.

We are so sorry you had to deal with the incompetence of our Congress and had your vacation impacted by the Governent Closure. We are pleased, however, that you had a great stay and shared such a sentiment with the TripAdvisor Community. We work really hard to provide one of the best places to stay when visiting Yosemite and kind words like yours help highlight this.

My husband and I have just returned from a trip that included Yosemite. We stayed at the Westgate Lodge for two nights. The recent fire came VERY close to this property - walk behind the buildings and you can see the fire line - so there is still a slightly smoky smell to the area. Not pervasive, mostly pleasant.

Check in was quick and easy. Alyssa set us up, gave us the free wifi password, and gave us the scoop on the restaurant next door.

Our room was large and very clean with new furnishings and a very update bathroom. The sheets were new, and a little on the rough side, but the bed clothes were really clean. The carpet was brand new and still very clean. We had a small coffeepot and good sized mini-fridge, both of which we used. The coffee maker was fine, but their brand of coffee wasn't great.

It was cool while we were there, so we didn't try the pool. The hot tub was not really clean enough for our comfort level.

The one drawback, which is NOT the hotel's fault, is that there is NO cell service in this area. There is free wifi, but that won't help you make a phone call. You'll have to go all the way into Groveland, to the very highest point, to get a decent cell signal. My husband has Verizon and I have AT&T and neither of us had a signal.

That being said, we went all around the park and this hotel really does seem to be the closest to Yosemite Valley sites. Even those hotels in the park itself aren't as close, and the roads to get their are steep, windy, and narrow.

There is a three-day cancellation policy, which we understood upfront and were prepared to invoke when the government shutdown closed the parks. We got to see most of what we wanted to see there anyway, shutdown or no.

If you go, eat at the Buck Meadows Restaurant next door. Food and staff are wonderful. Fun atmosphere, great beer options.

Room Tip: If it's a busy season, ask for a room on the top floor. If you're on the lower level, you re...

Washers and dryers for guests, fast in-room Wi-Fi, clean large rooms, recently refurbished, coffee maker with free coffee, refrigerator, and microwave. The restaurant next door has good meals at reasonable prices. The friendly owner drew a map to a nearby hiking trail for us. We may stay here when we come back to Yosemite in the spring.
One reviewer below has the wrong motel; this motel consists of 4, 2-story buildings in a "U" around the pool and parking lot. It is not one-story.
The light switches have motion detectors, so that when you are sitting still at the desk checking email, the room's light will suddenly go off. How many pennies is the owner saving with that annoying feature?
When comparing prices, keep in mind that you don't get breakfast here.

Dear Guest:

I wanted to personally thank you for leaving a review about your stay at our hotel. I also wanted to quickly apologize about those motion detector lights. It might have been a faulty switch and I am sorry you were annoyed. We had our property undergo an energy audit to become more green which we feel is important considering we are in the forest.

We'd love to host you again in the Spring. Book direct with us at yosemitewestgate.com where you will find our lowest rates. In fact, use the promo code tripadvisor and save even more!

Large room - huge tv - microwave and fridge - all close to Yosemite! Loved the location - restaurant next door was good with friendly service. Would definitely consider if I were a couple or family spending a couple of days in Yosemite. Good clean value.

Stayed here for one night in August after a short visit to Yosemite.

Received a friendly welcome from the reception area when arriving early evening and was checked in quickly.

Our room was on the second floor or a lodge-style building. The room was large with 2 double beds and was very clean. There was a small 'kitchen area' with a microwave and fridge and there was also a large screen TV in the main bedroom area. There was also a good AC unit that kept the room cool.

Surprisingly there was free WiFi available and it was pretty fast too!

There isn't much in the area in terms of shops or restaurants, but there is a vending machine for cold drinks just outside, as well as a good diner-style restaurant just next door.

I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again should I be visiting the area again.

Conveniently situated just half an hour from the west entrance of Yosemite. Hotel is situated in separate buildings with one story only. You can park your car in front of your room. Rooms are spacious and clean. Restaurant next door with great food.

We visited Yosemite a short while after a large fire in the area. When we arrived, we could still smell burnt pine and trees. You could see the devastation of the fire in the area. Luckily, the heroic firefighters stopped the flames from getting too near to this wonderful hotel. In fact, I am told that the hotel housed folks working on containing the fire, and they gave up their pool water for firefighting purposes.

The rooms were spacious enough for a family of 3 adults. There is a restaurant just a hop, skip, and jump away from the hotel (Buck Meadows Restaurant). The restaurant had enough variety that we had dinner there every night of the trip. The hotel has a YART stop, but I would highly recommend renting a car to see Yosemite. It's about a 30-45 minute drive from Westgate Lodge to the Yosemite Valley. This is as close as you can stay to the park on the west side without actually staying in the park. There is a convenience store with a gas station just a few minutes away from the hotel, and Groveland's Main Street is about 11 miles west of the hotel. The hotel also has free WiFi and coin operated laundry facilities.

The money savings of staying at this hotel as compared to staying within the park is pretty significant. Great value.
