“A great way to have a family reunion or wedding.”
Reviewed 9 December 2011

When our daughter decided to get married at our small vacation cabin in Anchor Bay CA we searched reception locations all around the area. We were having a sit down dinner for 60.
We ended up renting the whole Whale Watch Inn for the weekend. It was much more cost effective than housing our out-of-town guests all over town, finding a reception venue, tables, chairs, china, linens etc. I was planning the wedding from Southern CA but no wedding planner was required. It's a small town all the service providers know each other and work together well.
The owner's of the Whale Watch coordinated everything for us from the cake, Franny's Cup and Saucer, best wedding cake ever, Mick Paul the photographer, Jean the cater and Rhonda flowers.
We had a wonderful sit down prime rib meal. We were able to keep the leftovers to nibble on in the common room by the fireplace all evening. Everybody was served breakfast in their rooms both mornings.
We were treated so well. They took great care in making sure our older guests were in easy access rooms.
The whole family wants to do it again.
Thank you to the Whale Watch Family for a memory our family will cherish forever

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights (in the Cliffside room). I booked it because from the pictures online it seemed to have the best view, and it did not disappoint!! From our deck we had the beautiful (though slightly obstructed because of trees) view of the ocean and beach private beach below. We got the view sunsets and sunrise without leaving the bed! At night, we left the sliding door open and listened to the waves crashing on the beach...

The room itself is small and slightly dated, but comfortable and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Our breakfast got served in the community room next door which was blocked off from other guests until after we were done eating. The breakfast was served on time, promptly as we requested at 9 am; perfect portions and temperature too.

The access to the beach-narrow stairs down the cliffside. The beach is gorgeous! There aren't too many restaurants in the area, though we did try Mariachis just a couple of blocks down and drove up to Pizza n Cream in Point Arena. We hiked in Bear Gulch and visited Fort Bragg (about an hour away) the first day and Gualala Point the next. We barely saw any other people which was truly amazing!

Stayed at the Whale Watch Inn for one night...wished it had been a little longer. Great staff, breathtaking views and a very tasty warm breakfast brought right to your room! The weather was amazing, so we were able to have breakfast on the balconey, which was wonderful. Though we didn't have time, the fireplace was ready to go when we arrived...a really nice touch. We stayed in the bath suite...the only complaint that I had was that the room required updating. The furniture was starting to come apart, the bedspread looked warn, the flooring in the bathroom was very dated, etc... With a few updates, the room would be spectacular. That being said, everything was clean and service was top-notch (and if you arrive on a Saturday, they have a wonderful little happy hour with snacks and wine...VERY nice.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask which have been updated.

Dead bugs on windowsills, baseboards, and walls. Old, stained sheets. Furnishings shabby, pictures and decor in general looked like they had hung since the 1970's. Faded silk flowers, thin greyish towels. I wanted to leave but we were locked in 2 night minimum. Place gave me the willies. The Bay Window seat is wood covered by carpet -- no cushioning. The owners clearly take no pride or interest in the property - unfortunate because the land is beautiful. The grounds in the front are lovely, the breakfast was pretty good. Place badly needs updating and scrubbing- painting. I will never spend our precious time.. or our money here again. Sub-par. Dreadful.

Arriving at the Whale Watch Inn was the end of a long day of driving up from Monterrey (with another 4 days of driving ahead of us) and it was just what we needed. A friendly reception, although we were late arrivals. A fireplace in the room to offset the slightly cool and grey weather. A deck, surrounded by trees, on which to recuperate from the drive. And best of all, the sound of the surf to lull us to sleep. Perfect! A continental breakfast of coffee, bread, muffins and juice was served in a common area beside our room. After a short visit to the beach below the inn, we were back on the road. So if you are planning a stop here on your own road trip up the coast, make sure you allow enough time to get the full benefit of a stay here with a walk on the beach ... and just a few more minutes of listening to the ocean.

Yes the location is the next best thing to Kaui and instead of spending a day flying enjoy it here, it's like Heaven. The staff was more caring, attentive and accomadating than any I have experiened and I travel often. They felt like a warm loving family. The breakfasts are out of this world even taking into considerations dietary restrictions. When it's warm enough I encourage you to eat on your balcony but beware it is so mesmerizing you may not want to climb the stairs to the paradise below. With a warm breakfast in your tummy you are ready for adventure so have some fun and walk the stairs all the way down. HaHaHa they don't make stairs like that anymore. It's so worth it! The reward at the bottom is phenomanal let yourself surrender to the warm sand, heavenly beauty and you may even have it all to yourself. This is a beauty and peace that must be experienced to be fully enjoyed. I highly recommend that if you have the slightest chance to stay longer that you do. I started with 4 days and was blessed to stay 6. I encourage you to ask them on the phone for their best rate especially right now. Plan your vacation for this time of year and you have a much better chance of getting the BEST prices. About your four legged companions they too will love it here, and will also be treated like royalty. There are wonderful trees, soft soil and lots of sand to have a blast on. If a more relaxed pace is what you're after than you have found it. When I first arrived I was exhausted but with the mesmerizing ocean, warm sunshine and kindness of the staff I recovered quickly and soon my corgi and I were climbing the waterfall and chasing waves. Whale Watch Inn is calling your name. Hurry don't make yourself wait for paradise any longer!

We stayed two nights and enjoyed them both. We were there to celebrate the start of our romance 39 years ago. We enjoyed the fireplace in the room and beautiful view. We might have enjoyed it a little more when the weather was warmer but it was a nice stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delivered hot at the arranged time and was tasty. The steps to the beach looked pretty steep so we didn't even try but drove to a nearby beach to walk. The wireless connection was not accessible from our room but we were able to connect periodically in a common area.
