“Best in the area”

Some of St Orres over-ambitious menu items fail to deliver but stick to the basics or Bar menu at dinner. Try weekend brunch, you can't go wrong. Quality food, good service and charming ambiance.

“Dinner in a Secluded Setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2014

There are not many places to choose from in Gualala, but we found a charmer just north of town on the Coast Highway. Keep a sharp eye out for the driveway on hillside opposite from the coast. It is easy to miss, but the Russian architectural domes are the give away.
There was a nice log fireplace warming the lobby. So we ordered a drink and sat in front of the fire to warm up. Seems like lots of locals stopped by because everyone seemed to know each other and enjoy each other's company. Eventually we made it to our table in the dining room. The menu was quite varied. I had the rack of lamb and my wife had the scallops. Both entres came after soup and salad courses. The soup was a cream of parsnip and the salad was pear and cheese. Both our a main dishes were very generous portions cooked to our request. The service was friendly and polite. All in all it was a lovely evening.

“Order off the bar menu”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2014

This restaurant had a great reputation in the past and has slowly lost it over the past 10 years. We were staying at the friends in town and were told by her that the bar menu is better and more appropriately priced. We arrive on a Saturday night without reservations and were seated within 15 minutes. The main dining room was crowded but fun. The waitress was very pleasant. We asked for the bar menu also. My friends ordered off it and were reasonably content with their modest meals. The main menu was grand, interesting and expensive. I saw pheasant on it and "had to have it". It was almost ineatable. I assume it was a packaged frozen breast annealed on a hockey puck of rice. When the bill arrive there was a math error overcharging us $100. Won't be back likely. If we do I will stick with the bar menu.

“54 Birthday Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

It only took 54 years but well worth the wait. When you think of Gualala Restaurants this one needs to be top of your list. Do not worry about dress up, I had jeans and a nice shirt, no stuff shirts here. Wonderful food and great service. I will be back and trust me it will not take 54 more years. Thank you St. Orres

“Beautiful Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2014

They have an excellent brunch. Last time we stopped by, my son had a wild mushroom lasagna that was to die for.
I have not eaten dinner here in years but would definitely recommend it for a special meal celebration.
The owner is wonderful and has three scotties that roam the lobby. They are the cutest dogs!
The buildings are a must see even if you do not eat or stay here. The landscaping is gorgeous - especially when the flowers are blooming.
