We booked Boon through i-escape.com - a site we trust, so knew it would deliver and we got a great price, I believe, for a weekend booking.

Boon was just what we wanted: it's cool, but not pretentious, and has those little touches that you don't get in chain hotels. And Boon himself is one of the best dogs I have wrestled with in a long time!

Our booking got us a complimentary bottle of wine and an kind-of upgrade: we were given room 14 - a large room, but next to reception. The room is large because it caters for wheelchair visitors, but we asked to move because we wanted a carpet (it was a wet weekend). Room 2 was smaller, but just right for us, with a nice private deck. It is a old motel style set of buildings so be aware that you may have neighbours walking past your glass front door. Keep the curtains drawn!

The pool and hot tub are lovely; the honestly bar and self service breakfast in keeping with the laid back attitude; and the free bicycles are real hit - we took them off to Porter Bass winery which was a great, safe way to get around (and have a glass or two of wine).

Guerneville itself is a sweet town: there's a great coffee shop at the top of road; the Boon restaurant is fantastic, and Michael at the Big Bottom Market could not be more helpful - do pay him and that store/deli/winebar a visit.

If you're looking for character, design, ease and comfort, Boon is hard to beat.

Room Tip: The motel style means that you might get some foot traffic outside your room. If that really is goin...

Boon is a stylish, comfortable, and peaceful retreat that's just off the wine road. We celebrated our anniversary with four nights at the hotel. The rooms are simple and clean (think Swedish design). The grounds and landscaping have been perfectly updated. The pool and hot tub are great and stay open late. Breakfast is basic continental-style with locally roasted coffee.

The hotel is ideally located for a day-trip to the coast and within easy driving distance to Russian River wineries. It's about a 30 - 40 minute drive to Healdsburg and Dry Creek wineries. Guerneville is a bit of a funky little town but we quickly found some great spots including the Boon Restaurant and Big Bottom Market (for picnic supplies).

Ride the free Boon bikes (beware, they are a little rickety) into town for a homemade biscuit with fresh strawberries and cream at Big Bottom Market. Then ride back, past the hotel to visit the Armstrong Redwoods State Park. There are great hiking trails if you continue (by car) through the redwoods and up the road to Austin Creek State Park.

Room Tip: Select a room that's away from the main road.

We stayed at the Boon Hotel for three nights in Sonoma. It was exactly as advertised but with some extras that we weren't expecting like the hot tub being open until midnight (yay!) and the Honour Bar!! Our room was simple but had everything we needed. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. We had a small 'private deck' that we didn't set foot on so perhaps an unnecessary extra. Breakfast was fantastic and different each day - I enjoyed a lovely coffee by the pool each morning before my run. We ate at the Boon Restaurant all three nights. Boring perhaps but each night we had an excellent meal. We used the bikes they had on loan each night.

Guerneville is a very cute town and is a much more relaxed, low-key alternative to Healdsburg. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Neither I nor my husband likes frou-frou B&B guestrooms with too many sham pillows and 2-hour breakfasts; we just want a nice home base for the area we are visiting. The queen suite at boon hotel+spa was ideal for us, providing a bed and linens that we both raved about, a fridge to keep our picnic supplies, a sitting area with duraflame log fireplace, and a serviceable little shower bathroom stocked with refreshing EO amenities in refillable pumps. The advertised “private back yard” was a disappointment- essentially an uninviting fenced-in graveled area, furnished with a table and chairs, backing up to the parking lot and laundry room. In fact our biggest criticism of boon is that it tends to overstate itself a bit in general, which can lead to false expectations. The “spa” part for example, is 2 little rooms off of the reception office and a lot of the “hip boutique hotel” style is executed with somewhat flimsy fittings. That being said, everything that really mattered was first-rate – I have to mention the bed again (*****); the pool and hot tub were great, continental breakfast fixings were diverse and excellent, including truly fresh baked goods and French press coffee (from 8:30 – 10:30); massage service was terrific and hospitality was at hand when we needed anything. Boon’s location was perfect for our pursuits of hiking in Armstrong State Park, canoeing the Russian River, and, of course, tasting the region’s wines. The associated restaurant in downtown Guerneville, boon, eat+drink, was an additional boon to our vacation. We would happily return to both.

After four full-on days in San Francisco we were ready for some rest and relaxation and Boon provided just that. A short walk from the town, in a beautiful secluded woody location, yet almost always bathed in sunshine. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and comfortable in a sort of minimalist way. (Our suitcases spoiled the effect but there was nowhere to stash our stuff!). We enjoyed the varied breakfasts around the pool. Evan was extremely helpful and made sure everything hit the right note.

We stayed at boon for the Labor Day weekend which was filled with wine tastings and exploring the area. We found boon to be a very quiet and relaxing place. Our rooms were simply appointed and the beds extremely comfortable. Add the cool evenings and you can imagine the great night's sleep we got. We had room "Lucky 13" which is large and has a wonderful fireplace which we used one evening. The back patio off the room was a nice feature but we did not use at all. The continental breakfast each morning by the pool was easy, filling and accompanied with delicious hot coffee - nice to start the day! There's also a hottub next to the pool which was very relaxing after a long day. We used the bikes in the morning to ride into Guerneville - this was really fun. The staff at boon was exceptional and helpful. Would definitely return here for our next trip to Guerneville.

We were in town for 4 nights and truly enjoyed our stay at Boon. Wonderful staff and great grounds. An easy 15 minute walk to town and free use of the hotel's bikes. And they have a fantastic restaurant in town. We would stay (and eat) with them again!
