Lovely Ambiance, good service great food. Had our heart set on having the lamb, unfortunately they ran out (our res was @830) by the time we ordered. Every starter we had was so yummy, especially the scallop w/uni sauce! Beef Strip loin was good, Halibut wasn't to my liking (I was really looking forward to lamb). Dessert sampler was nice. We will be back again to try that lamb. Looking forward to my next visit to Applewood Inn.

We had checked this out on the Internet and Ron at the Rio Villa Beach Resort confirmed that it was one of the best places in the area.

A very impressive room and excellent, friendly staff - good ratio of staff to customers.

The food was cooked and presented to the highest standard. We both had the Halibut and it was outstanding. Starters of soup 'of the day' and tartare were lovely as were the puddings of lemon tart and Mocha Mouse.

Extensive wine list catering for all pockets and tastes - with many local wines - as you would expect. A bottle of the Moshin Pinot Noir at $48 went down very well as did the Korbel Rose 'champagne' aperitif.

Warm atmosphere with mixed clientele - all dressed 'smart - casual' as requested by the management - so don't turn up in a bikini or 'tatty' jeans. Having made the comment about attire - the place is certainly NOT stuffy.

We would certainly suggest a visit and it will be top of our list should we return to the area.

Enjoy.

Stephen and Paul

We had the tasting menu, and the chef was willing to accommodate our dietary restrictions (no pork or shellfish). Service was pleasant. The room is nice but a little on the corporate side, though it did not help that it was not very busy (Labor Day Friday night). The appetizers were stand-outs, although we were disappointed that the menu on the website was not current (chilled English pea soup sounded so good! Alas not available), the mains were good, desserts fine though not outstanding. It's pretty pricey and although we are glad we went, I am not sure we would repeat.

During a visit to the Russian River area, we discovered Applewood Inn quite by accident and wished we had factored it into our list of accommodations. It would appear to be an ideal base for a visit to the area, often overlooked in favour of the Napa Valley - offering a wooded setting, spa delights and, of course, a restaurant way beyond the average. If you are not familiar with tastings and pairings, Applewood would be a great place to start. It's online menu with mouth-watering photos is exciting enough. We have experienced and reviewed tastings and pairings in France and Canada and would recommend the experience. Wine is about more than just roadside tastings all day or even a nice glass on the patio. At its finest, wine offers a symbiotic relationship with food - each bringing out the finest flavours and characteristics of the other. Applewood's version walks one appropriately and imaginatively, though not inexpensively, through the most apt and sometimes unexpected combinations. A memorable experience and next time we'll stay over.

Food is very good but service feel very sterile. We had a $50 dollar dinner voucher as part of our stay at the inn. Our bill was still $150 after the dinner voucher. We opted for the ala carte from the menu not the prix frix. My chocolate mouse was divine.
