My group had such a nice experience and will definitely come back. We reserved 4 cabins for our youth soccer group playing in a tournament in Sebastapol. The location was outstanding, adjacent to Johnsons beach, within a block of the main street, shops, restaurants and bars. Loved the private gated parking in the back. Nice open lawn area leading to the river and beach area. We had a pot luck BBQ and fire for about 20 in the BBQ area (which is lovely). The host was extremely attentive and personable from booking to offering charcoal, letting us wash 13 yr. old boys stinky uniforms, and setting us up with extra bedding. Yes this place is old but at the same time, they are RUSTIC clean cabins. I expected them to be old and dated and they were but that is what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised to find a full size refrigerator and freezer, clean and fresh linens with decent pillows. The boys enjoyed the pool (nice size) and Jacuzzi. Not the Hilton but for a rustic cabin, ideal for our needs. The facility overall was clean and landscape well maintained. Will definitely come back to enjoy the river beach and town.

Room Tip: Room closest to the Jacuzzi and pool get the pool area noise.

I have stayed at Riverlane resort with my husband, friends and family on numerous occasions over the years. We love the location; a stone's throw from family-owned Johnson's beach, Safeway and organic market on the same block, or minutes away from a meander or hike among stately redwood trees in Armstrong Woods. Golf is nearby; the coast is about a half hour drive away. The resort has a very well maintained pool and hot tub, wonderful any time, but especially nice on cool mornings. The accommodations are basic, yet very clean. Since we are accustomed to our comforts we bring along the coffee grinder, slow juicer, gas pellet wine opener, etc.To our delight, the new management made several improvements since last year. Fresh herbs growing just outside the manager's quarters made a delicious addition to our daily meals. Our cabin had received a new bed, futon, and screens. Each deck is equipped with chairs, table and small Webbers for BBQ or roasted marshmallows. A central area next to the pool has picnic tables, wood fireplace/stove under the arbor--a nice spot to use the resorts Wifi or enjoy gathering with the family and friends. Need clean linens or towels? We took a 30 second walk to the laundry area in the morning and traded in our used for wonderfully fresh towels right from the dryer! If anything is missing or not working inside the cabin, just ask the manager, Benita, she will do her best to remedy any deficiency. Thanks to Benita's generous hospitality and cabin maintenance we are extending our annual weekly stay to two weeks next year!

"Resort" could not be further from the truth at this dilapidated establishment. Charging $150 per night is really a joke. It looks like it was built in the fifties and has not been refurbished since. There were three of us staying there. There was a queen bed and a mattress on the floor that we had to unfold and make up ourselves. The only space for the mattress was in the kitchen area. Although we were staying for three nights there was only one roll of toilet paper provided which was only restocked after requesting it, there were no wine glasses or bottle opener, despite being in a wine region. We had to ask for an extra towel as only two were provided. There was no restocking or cleaning of anything during our stay.
There was a coffee drip machine provided but only one sachet of coffee grounds, presumably we were supposed to find it so undrinkable we wouldn't want any more. There was no milk provided.
There were two bars of soap provided but no other toiletries.
The tv was minute with a thick layer of dust lay on the table upon which it sat.
In contrast, the next night we stayed in a hotel in the Napa Valley for $147 a night. Clean, plush sheets, towels, and room, friendly staff, complimentary toiletries.
It is notable that there has been a recent change of management. I suspect a lot of the previous positive reviews were written before this.
This place would be acceptable if it were cheap, but $150 a night for this is really taking the Mickey.

My daughter and I stayed a month on a weekly rate as the finishing touches were completed on our home.

We loved staying here! Over the course of the month we stayed in cabin 14, 16 and 3. All the cabins are uniquely designed, clean, warm and accommodating. The management went out of their way with kindness towards us making us feel right at home.

The owners are very friendly and I learned many things about the history of Gerneville and the resort itsself. I'm recommending this resort to all my friends!

Benita took over management in mid-month October and has upgraded many of the units. Her family has years of resort experience upgrading resorts. See the Facebook page for all the updated photos!

We've been going to the Riverlane each summer after school lets out for our children and grandchildren for the past five years. The kids always count the days til the following summer. We take three of the same cabins each year. The cabins are simple, not fancy, and they do sometimes have nonfunctioning items. But the owner is quick to remedy anything you tell them is not working.
The pool is enclosed and fun for families with small children. Johnson's beach is a short hop on foot and we'll spend one day on the beach to enjoy the river. This is a great place to gather your family and have a bonding few days. Love it here.

Room Tip: Our favorite is Rm 4.

We stayed here, in Cabin 6, just before Easter, after a long road trip from Las Vegas. We arrived a little early and our cabin was not ready; Dave, the helpful owner, had his hands full mowing his huge lawn. So, we went to the local laundry, as you do after a long road trip.

We were pleased on moving in, to find that cabin #6 was exactly what we were looking for: a peaceful haven to unwind in. As others have pointed out, this is not 5 star accommodation, it is a tad old but it is clean, comfortable and was perfect for us. Barbecuing on the large deck after a full day in the surrounding & magnificent redwoods was a sheer delight.
The river is a mere 100 metres from the deck which over looks the (freshly mowed) lawns.
The peace was fantastic - the only noise was from a family of grey squirrels munching on their acorns - now THAT is peace.
The kitchen is large and well equipped, in the rustic but not rudimentary sense. The bathroom is old but plenty of hot water and clean towels.
We would heartily recommend this resort and the magnificent area. With the strong Australian dollar, Australians crawling all over our favourite foreign country and I really recommend fellow travellers to get out of town and see this magnificent area: beautiful scenery, great people, excellent local produce and very drinkable wines. All in all, a first class experience.

Room Tip: River front cabins, at the rear are best for view.

My husband and I spent two nights and three days at the Riverlane and it was wonderful!
We had cabin 15 which had a deck looking out to very lush scenery. Our room was a studio equipped with a small kitchen nette which was very adequate for us. We shopped at the Safeway just down the street and cooked all of our meals in the kitchen. The room was very clean and our showers were hot! The room had a skylight. We were a stones throw from the river! We rented a canoe for a few hours and took some nice walks in the area. I highly recommend this very inexpensive, comfortable and relaxing getaway! We're looking forward to going there again next year!
