Cothay Manor is worth a voyage, a pilgrimage, a day of feasting. So the question is 'where to stay?'. Runnington is a GPS-obligatory town crow flight from Cothay. The Cider Barn at the end of a small rectory path is a superb transformation. There are four bedrooms, en suite, each with private access to the front of the house. The digs are modern, comfortable, quiet and the walks are breathtaking. There was attention to detail at breakfast with fresh fruits and local yoghurt; maps were provided and reservations arranged at superb local pubs. The Cider Barn is attractive, clean, carefully run and personal without a single edge out of place. I would recommend it as a superb, modern respite and one of the closest to Cothay. The price is reasonable and this is England at it's best.

What a wonderful, descriptive review - thank you. Superb use of English and artistic style too, it makes it all sound so special. It is very pretty now, flowers and roses are all awakening. Louise

Wonderfully renovated and so comfortable, we had 2 lovely, peaceful days. From the welcoming tea and tea bread to the tasty breakfasts Louise makes your stay a real treat. We went for lovely walks by the river and then relaxed in the small private living room. Everything you could need is thought of and the beds are so comfortable. Thank-you Louise we returned home refreshed.

Trying again to say Thank You, I think I sent a facebook message last time. Pleased you had a good break, even without the brewery. Louise

Once again at the Cider Barn, and like returning home.
I would not plan to visit England in January! but family matters dictated that I did, and there was only one place I wanted to stay.
Even in winter, it was bright, and so warm and cosy. The beautiful aged wood, and structure of the barn make it well insulated. The wood burner upstairs was lit once, it never seemed cold though.
Louise was just as attentive and friendly and helpful, always giving just the right amount of attention, and you just feel so relaxed.
This time I had a different room, a double bedded one at the end of the house, comfortable and roomy, again an excellent shower.
This is a wonderful place for peace and quiet. I hope to be able to return in 2015

It is always lovely to have guests revisiting and noticing changes, as well as enjoying the wood burner in winter. Thank you for being so kind and thoughtful. Louise

The Cider Barn is a fresh, modern refurbishment but retains its calm, country ambience. Lovely comfortable room, great shower, a range of breakfast treats, what's not to like? I was looking for a quiet retreat for a few days and this fitted the bill so well.

Louise is a kind and attentive host providing extra touches such as a selection of herb teas, fresh milk and yummy biscuits to the usual tea/coffee tray. Nothing was too much trouble, she even helped arrange a treatment with a local reflexology therapist and recommended pubs and restaurants in easy reach. This is an ideal location for a short break or as a base for exploring Somerset. I will return and have no hesitation in recommending.

This was a very nice place to stay. Our host, Louise, was very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. She gave good recommendations for places to eat and even made reservations for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

A hop skip and jump from Wellington, down a quiet lane stands the recently converted Cider Barn. Louise the owner has restored this home beautifully, keeping the traditional beams, and some old features, but at the same time has brought the building into the 21st century with efficient bathrooms and heating. Its light and airy everywhere, but best off all it is so relaxing. So quiet at night, stars were beautiful, even the milky way was on view.
Louise is a great host, so enthusiastic and helpful. her friends the GJ's helped out during my 11 night stay, equally they were terrific hosts, and no failings in the fresh fruit salad department!
If you like the countryside you will love it here, lots of walking nearby. If you just want peace then this is the place for you. Also some good eateries in the nearby villages. like the Martlett, The Catherine Wheel and The Holywell. Further afield The King Alfred is excellent, and The Cottage Inn Wellington. Also try Pynnes Farm shop at North Petherton, fantastic meats, produce and foody gifts.
I hope to be back next year, it really made me feel like I was in my own home, I did not want to leave, beats anywhere else in the area hands down.

Room Tip: Twin room is quiet, spacious, great built in shower.

I've traveled extensively and my standards for accommodations are high. Cider Barn exceeded my expectations of a B&B. It's a gem: relaxed, comfortable, clean, modern accommodations in a home that oozes character, warmth and charm - just like her owner. Louise goes out of her way, and then some, for her guests.

The setting is tranquil and beautiful - from every window, you can see the lovely garden, and glimpses of gently rolling countryside. Just as impressive, Louise trusted us with her home: our rooms opened from the garden, and we could let ourselves in and out with our own keys (really useful for late night home-comings). She encouraged us from the moment we arrived to treat the house as our own. We did, and it felt like home - only nicer!

Louise is quite the cook, and breakfasts were delicious: cereal, yogurts, fresh fruit, local farm fresh eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast, complete with homemade preserves.

Louise is also very thoughtful about her guests' comfort, and anticipates their needs. She booked us dinner reservations before our arrival, knowing the local pub (the Martlett Inn) is excellent and gets busy on a weekend night). She also thought through the logistics to make sure, that we and her other guests were well situated. For instance, the two rooms I booked for my daughter and me were at opposite ends of the house. When another family booked the third room during our stay, Louise offered us the two rooms next to each other instead. It probably worked well for the other family as well not to be between us.

I can't say enough about Louise and the Cider Barn. It's delightful.

Room Tip: The Blue Room is particularly nice, and having a full-length mirror to check appearance and near a w...
