“Worst Hotel On Coast of California”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Upon walking into our Harbor View Inn guest room we noticed the bathroom flooded and a strange smell to the room. We called housekeeping and they mopped up the flooded bathroom and the manager came and told us that they could not move us to another room. No one bothered to sanitize this dangerous health condition. The ceiling continued a slow drip and the room smelled like urine. Honestly, the worst hotel experience of my life. The manager also refused to provide any compensation for this condition.

Room Tip: Find a different hotel.

The rooms here have obviously not been updated in a long time. The décor is dated and worn. The "breakfast" is pretty much worthless.

But there are some good points too. The location is good, with harbor views. Quite a few restaurants are within walking distance and the café next door is friendly and has tasty food. The young woman at the front desk was very pleasant. Wifi is free. Our room (17) was quite large and pretty quiet. The room had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker (and not enough electrical outlets). beds were reasonably comfy.

Basically, it could be great if it were updated. As-is, it's acceptable but overpriced.

This is a simple older motel style property. Our room was clean and comfortable - if basic. (Fortunately we did not have people in adjacent rooms so we can not comment on room-room noise.) It faces the main road and one hears the traffic passing (but was not excessive).
The desk person was not very friendly. She gave the feeling that she was there because she had to.
Don't bother with the "continental breakfast". (We didn't try it.) Go directly next door where there is a very friendly cafe with large choice of food.
A serious concern is that the hotel insisted on writing the credit card security code on the imprint of the card that they took - a significant violation of credit card security (I have reported to credit card company.

The woman at the front desk was bubbly and helpful. The breakfast needs to be skipped and should embarrass management for the price of a night here. Walk across the street to the yellow coffee shop and have good food.
The control to our roll out windows broke the first time we opened them. This place needs some attention. But maintenance fixed them promptly. Overall, not terrible--and it's the California coast--where everything is great no matter what.
But! Think of trying a hostel--there are two former-lighthouse hostels in this area--much more value for the money.

We booked this place online, based on its description and pictures. What a scam!! The rooms are outdated, dreary, and not so clean. Paper thin walls. Beds were horrible. Continental breakfast was a joke. May as well have gone to the local gas station variety store. We were supposed to stay here two nights but left after one night. We drove a mile up the road and stayed in a lovely B&B with complimentary wine and cheese, big comfy beds, and a homemade, hot full breakfast, for less $! Harbor view is the type of place you crash for short money when you're desperate and can't find any place else to stay. Don't believe their brochure!!

Room Tip: Book someplace else!

I will start with the only positive thing...the room was clean but very dated. The walls of the room were so thin we had to listen to the person in the next room snore all night the first night and the conversation of the people in the room on the other side the 2nd night. Besides for that, there was a constant buzz that went off every 5 seconds continuously without stop coming from somewhere outside. We didn't bother to ask someone at the front desk because we had not had a good experience with the front desk help up to that point. The first thing we asked at the front desk was why the Wi-Fi wasn't working. The young girl was clueless and then I believe it was the owner who said connect in the office and it will be good in your room...which it was not. She also said that a lot of people had trouble with the Wi-Fi...HELLO!!! Maybe it is your cheap Wi-Fi and not the 4 items we try to connect, 2 iphones, an ipad mini and a mac. The owner had suggested that it was my device...and to be honest, I was not going to argue any more. The TV in the room was the smallest TV I have ever seen in a hotel room in about 20 years. By the way, this was room 10. We went down for the "continental" breakfast the first morning and it was a total joke. There were 2 cans of apple juice, boxes of cereal and 1 sweet roll in plastic wrap and the girl went into the back and came back with a box of this horrible rolls that probably came from Costco by the case....and coffee. Also asked a different person at the front desk for the latest news on the BART strike and she had no idea what I was talking about. It looked like there were several and nice hotels to stay at in Half Moon Bay but this place was HORRIBLE. We had been on the road traveling for 2 weeks, had stayed in 5 others places and all of those places were nice, clean, had working Wi-Fi. a helpful staff and served what today is really considered a nice continental breakfast.

Room Tip: Definitely stay away from room 10, don't know about any of the others but can't believe they...
