“Nice Hike to World Famous Mavericks Beach”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Mavericks is known for its amazing waves and the yearly Mavericks Surf Contest. To get to Mavericks you need to take a short hike from a parking area to see the beach. Some days waves are just like at any other beach; on other days (especially in the winter) the beach has world famous large waves which world class surfers only dare to ride.

“Love the Beach and Marshlands here”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We usually spend a little time here whenever we are on the coast. Nice surf over the rocks where the Mavericks are held and the walk up is adjacent to marshlands with waterfowl. This is used as a dog run, and the dogs seem to love it here.

“Nice spot off the beaten path”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

So there are not many signs for this part of Mavericks. Follow the GPS and takes you to a little overflow parking lot. You walk down this dirt trail until you reach the beach and follow the others walking around. It was very small waves when we visited as I imagine in the winter the waves are huge. Was a fun little stop nonetheless with pretty scenery and they even allow dogs to walk the beach! Must stop over if traveling up the coast!

“Surfer Dudes - Big Waves”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

A nice hike is needed to reach Mavericks. The waves were big and the ocean beautiful. Mavericks is known for its waves. If you just starting go to Pacifica.

“Very good exercise”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

We parked west of the airport and hiked to the overlook. The climb is quite steep (for 67 year olds), but excellent exercise, as it isn't too long. The view is very impressive (just North of the Naval Station's mushroom tower), even when the wind blows 40 MPH and it is overcast and spitting mist. The trail gives you the option of a short figure 8 (our choice, 1/2 hour) or a long figure 8 (for the more fit or adventurous).
