“OK Beach, Cold, Crowdend Week-end”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

We went to Half Moon Bay yesterday( Aug.3) it was crowded and cold. The temperature was 58 degree through out the day. If you plan to visit half moon bay, please bring jacket or sweater...it is cold even in Aug. especially on the beach. You can't swim here, the water is freezing cold. The beach is NOT that clean in my standard( a little of trash here and there). The view is nice though.

The parking is $10/day at the gate but there is a free parking along side the road before getting into the gate of state park area. There are a lot of RV parking and places to barbecue too.

The town also have a good places to eat with a very reasonable price. It is a small little town with a few interesting little gift shops. It is worth the time to stop by if you are in the area.

“Decent Beach”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Went with the kids on a Monday afternoon. Not too crowded. The water is cold, not for swimming. The kids did wade in (would not let them go in very far) and play in the waves a little. There is a stronger rip current here than at some of the other beaches. One of the rangers said they have to pull out kids from time to time. The lifeguard was not on duty the day we were there. Had to pay 8.00 for parking. Bathrooms and showers were available but some of the facilities were too dirty to use and smelled bad. We did see some dolphins and surfers which was cool. Overall a decent beach but the bathrooms, showers should have been clean considering there was a fee for parking.

“Love this place”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

This has to be our favourite beach in the bay area. We are staying in Santa Clara for a month and have four children and this has been the best beach that we have visited. We actually went back a good few times. We always went there early in the morning, getting there for 9.30 / 10am. Never had a problem parking ($10 for the day) and always got a spot close to the beach. There are picnic and bbq areas too. The beach is fantastic, with lovely sand and the kids love it. If you are going to bring children, do not let them into the water, as there is rip curl / current all around the bay area. Its not safe to go swimming in the water, just let them paddle and keep an eye on them. Especially, very young children, do not let go of their hand. My husband and I were standing in the water and we found it pretty strong. My second youngest actually got pulled off her feet twice. Other than that warning, it is fantastic and doesn't get overly crowded. Also, the amazing thing, every time we were there, there were always dolphins and seals swimming around, which the kids loved watching out for.

“A delight for locals and tourists alike.”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

Near San Francisco and Silicon Valley, Half Moon Bay is the easiest major Pacific Ocean beach to get to and the most accessible for people looking to stroll along the waters, picnic on the bluffs, or just sit near the cliffs and listen to the waves. This is not a good swimming area - the water is too cold and rough, but you can take a good walk, for the beach is quite long, or just hang out on the sand. And check out what's in the area. You can buy fresh fish at the marina north of the town, or check out the town itself, which has wonderful little shops and my favorite place, the feed and seed store that has little baby chickens for sale in the back. Half Moon Bay is a delight for locals and tourists alike.
