The beach is large and sandy , but there are very few amenities around and nothing else on the beach, ie cafes.

The desire of my kids was to play in the Tide Pools. We found some wonderful Tide Pools (thank you google and tripadvisor) at Half Moon Bay, looked up tide schedules and off we went. It was great fun and the area was beautifully kept and easy to access. We were saddened by the number of people there with buckets and shovels after we read the signs to leave the sea life in the pools.

The beach charges $10 for parking a car, a bit of a disincentive if you want to make a quick visit just to admire the views. although you may wish to camp here, have a picnic or a barbecue, for me it was to admire the view, the crescent shaped Half Moon Bay stretching along the course.

We tent camped at the campground here. The spaces were not as cramped as other campgrounds and we felt we git some privacy. Our site was right above the beach. Every night the sound of crashing ocean waves lulled us to sleep. The beach itself was scenic, but the waves were rough and not very good for playing in, unless you enjoy getting tossed around in cold water. A wet suit is a good idea even in the summer. So is a fire at night because it gets cold, although fires are prohibited on the beach, so you need to use the fire ring at your site. They sell firewood right there. Dogs are not allowed on the beach, so if you bring your dog, you'll be spending time walking above the ocean on the great trails around the area. On weekends the beach is crowded.
