“Best Clam Chowder near the sea”
Reviewed 12 October 2011

Nice place, not elegant (more shack like) but with a definite fisherman style. Great clam chowder, smooth and tasty, in bread bowl. Very good fish and chips, fish is soft and not dry at all and chips are large slices, not the usual frozen industrial small sticks.

“Unpretentious, with excellent seafood & trimmings.”
Reviewed 9 October 2011

We split a Veracruz (not sure if it was snapper, or halibut, or what, but -- very tasty!) with a baked potato & a deep-fried zucchini wedge. Along with a basket of sourdough bread & butter, it was plenty for two. We were there at night, so we can't comment on the view, but I'd imagine it's very nice, of the harbor.

This restaurant is not in the city of Half-Moon Bay, but farther north, in the little village of Princeton-on-the-Sea.

“Sorry Barbara”
Reviewed 25 September 2011

For a Saturday night the place looks great on the bay looking out over the water. Neon lights and people made the place a great place. The food though was disappointing after eating at Sam's for lunch we were excited to have dinner here. The clam chowder was salty, the Calamri and fist special was fair the breading for this southern was very thick, calimir was cold, fish ok once I removed the breading. Baked potatoe was very good you can't hurt that. this place was a real dissapointment.

“OK but nothing special”
Reviewed 9 September 2011

I stopped here for a Wednesday night dinner on the way back to San Francisco after a day in San Jose. The drive to get here is really pretty but the restaurant itself was a bit of a letdown.

There was no wait for inside seating and the service was reasonably prompt. I had the fish and chips. My wife had the grilled fish dinner. Both were average in taste and quality and maybe a bit high priced for what we received. We left underwhelmed.

If you go, take cash. Barbara's Fishtrap does not take credit cards and the on-site ATM machine will whack you with a hefty fee.

“Not up to par”
Reviewed 10 August 2011

Wife and I went to the Fishtrap on a week night after not having been there for quite some time. Sorry to say it was not as we remembered it. The deep fried fish was very greasy, the deep fryer must not have been at at the right temperature as the batter was not crispy. Instead everything was soggy and unappetizing. Not a good value for the $40.00 I spent.
