“A true taste of Half Moon Bay”
Reviewed 26 October 2013 via mobile

If your looking for a place to eat seafood, look no further. It is not a fancy restaurant, and it doesn't offer an eclectic selection of off the wall culinary items. Instead, it's allure is the simplistic menu of great tasting fish in a diner setting with a view of Half Moon Bay. Barbara's Fishtrap is a slice of true Americana. You can find it off Highway 1, and it's a must-see. The staff are friendly and efficient, but you must be willing to wait for a table. The food is a local favorite, so it's always busy. But, the wait is worth it. Be sure to try the clam chowder...I consider myself a chowder aficionado, and Barbara's is truly one of the best!!!

“Great meal”
Reviewed 23 October 2013

We were in the area for 3 days on a business trip. Barbara's came highly recommended for great seafood. We both had clam chowder that was some of the best that we had ever had. We had fish and chips and fried seafood platter. The fish portion was large and fresh. The breading was perfect. Dinner was so good that we came back the next night as we were craving the seafood. It was great again. We had chowder and shared fish and chips and prawns and chips. The atmosphere is casual and the view is right on the ocean. We will definitely be back whenever we are in the area.

“Family haunt”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Don't miss this restaurant if you want good, fresh fish in the area.. Our family has been going here for years, almost as long as the staff has been working there. Yes they are busy but for a reason. No they don't take credit cards and yes it is very casual but the food is terrific, the service is fast and efficient and the price is reasonable.

I get the sampler and a cup of chowder everytime real good food. Prices are not bad at all either. Bring a blanket you can eat right behind on the beach.

“Hole in the Wall Seafood”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

Barbara's Fishtrap is full of character! It's right off the water and has lots of fishy interior decor. While the food is good, they could do much better in the "view" department. The windows are small and tinted, and the ceiling is low (but it could be the net hanging from the ceiling with toys on it).

I would highly recommend the fish and chips and chowder! So far they are the best I have found in the bay area. The chowder is different....not milk based, so great if you are watching the calories or are lactose intolerant. It's something to balance out the thousands of calories you are going to consume....most of the menu is fried. Price wise you can save some $$$ on the daily beer specials, which are quite good, but despite it's hole in the wall feel it's not as cheap as you would expect. Remember to bring cash as it's all they take.
