Half Moon Bay Inn
Ranked #6 of 11 Half Moon Bay B&B and Inns

The Half Moon Bay Inn is a luxurious hotel in a historic Spanish style building. The location couldn't be more convenient for exploring the charming Main Street in Half Moon Bay, the beaches, golf and all the things there are to do on the Coast. The service and amenities are what make staying here so special. They paid attention to the important details: comfortable beds, luxury linens, great pillows, bathrobes & marble bathrooms. Since this is an older building the interiors are designed to be comfortable but have charming, old-fashioned touches like antique light fixtures, comfortable upholstered furniture, etc. The bath products are high quality and have a pleasant scent and the bath towels are extra large. The rooms are so comfortable you may not want to leave them. The on premise restaurant serves Italian cuisine with both indoor and outdoor seating.

We were lucky to find this place as we'd driven up the coast from Monterey on a Saturday and everywhere en route seemed to be booked up. We saw it from the road and it looked nice, so I went to enquire at the small front desk next to the Italian restaurant. There was a note to say that guests should check in at the restaurant, and a very nice restaurant worker showed us the rooms and organised our stay for the night. The room was nicely decorated and very comfortable. The only negative - and it was a big, big negative - was the noise in the evening and at night. The restaurant courtyard outside was noisy till 10pm when the place closed. There was an open grille/extractor in the kitchen area of the room, so it sounded like a party was going on. We had to block it with a towel to try to mute the noise, which sort of worked. The bedroom was above the kitchen of the restaurant and for most of the night we heard the kitchen staff clearing up and the dishwasher running so it meant that we didn't get a great night's sleep. The next day we tried to check out of the hotel, but noone was at the front desk again, so we dropped the key off at the restaurant. This was fine except that they couldn't give us a receipt and said they didn't know how this worked. It meant we didn't know exactly how much we were going to be charged on the credit card. Afterwards, I was curious to see the reviews on tripadvisor and I noticed that someone else had noted the noise and the extractor vent as a problem. The proprietor responded by saying it wasn't true, but actually I can vouch that it really was, and also that there never seemed to be anyone at the check in desk. Anyway, all in all it's a very nice hotel arrangement - just take your earplugs!

The room was fine, the noise and the smell from the pizzeria located downstairs was not. After the first night of what might have been a two night stay I checked out and moved to the Cypress Inn located in Miramar. The Cypress Inn was very relaxing and had an ocean view.

The Half Moon Bay Inn had very few amenities. The Inn is located on the main drag in downtown Half Moon Bay. This is a small provincial town that rolls up the sidewalks around 6:00pm however the pizzeria stays open later and is very noisy.

Other reviews here have me stymied, as we thoroughly enjoyed our night at the Half Moon Bay Inn. Communication with and from the proprietor was genial and necessary since we were arriving quite late. Upon arrival we were shown to our room quickly and without fuss. And what a relief it was.

We had two twin beds in a room overlooking Main Street. The decor was simple, current and done with great thought and style. Our beds were superbly comfy with great linens, pillows and hand-knit throws. The bathroom was small but perfectly appointed and spotless. Good shower, nice amenities and plush towels.

The one snag was Half Moon Bay's civic cleaning crew, who arrived about 10 pm to clean city-provided trash bins. They didn't take long, though, and we were asleep as soon as they moved down the street. No noise from the restaurant or patrons.

Great morning coffee is provided by the hotel in room, Outland Java if you need to know your roaster. All in all this was a sweet place to stay and we'd certainly return to Half Moon Bay Inn.

This is a beautiful nugget hidden away from the rush of the big city. Weather was gorgeous as you were right on the beach. Service was outstanding and they did a good job of matching your servers/attendants up with you so you could build a report with them over your stay. Food was good and had plenty of room for seminars and banquet.

At noon on Saturday, we had the impulse to drive down to Half Moon Bay and spend the night. The delightful owner of the HMB Inn got us all set up in the Romantic Suite. She even had a doggie bed, food bowl, and treats for our two pugs.

This was a great way to spend a relaxing weekend. It was great to wake up in the morning and stroll down Main Street before the throngs of tourists arrived.

They're building a new restaurant which look like it's going to be great.
