Love this place for sitting out on their deck, enjoying the view and people watching. Food is really good but it is pricey.

“Enjoyed It”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

We were seated at the patio and had a nice view of the Bay. The heaters were on but on this day, it was not necessary as it was a nice warm day. Our server was nice and very friendly. We ordered a bowl of chowder and their famous lobster roll. Both were delicious.

It may be a little pricey but well worth it, especially the ambiance.

“A local favorite”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

We saw this as we headed into town, the lot is always full, so we thought we'd try it on a Friday afternoon. We were seated outside and it had amazing views. Drink specials were good, polenta fries were a tasty appetizer and the shareable main course was also very good. Service however, was "pushy" to turn over the table and they were not busy. In fact, it was chilly and no one was waiting for the deck. After cashing out, we noticed they had two fire pits with seating outside so we settled there to finish our cocktails. No server checked in with us, with was fine. But when my husband went to the bar to get one more drink, he got attitude from the bartender. Needless to say we left after that.

“great place”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

So this place is like your favorite restaurant and pub all rolled into one with a great view. I stopped for lunch late in the day and just had a some snacks but really enjoyed it. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and polite. I had a large bowl of chowder and a glass of wine, all very well priced. I was very pleased with my visit. would like to go back soon on a rainy day!

“Depends on your taste ”
Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

I am a local who lives in Montara, and worked at the chowder house when it first opened. Before it was there, there was a cheaper family place called the high way one diner and then another restaurant called the anchorage. SAMs bought the property and combined the two places to form SAMs. To me the chowder house is another addition to the yuppee invasion that has permeated coast side culture. Now there are two factions of restaurants on the coast there are local haunts and there are overpriced yup-fests. This is just more of the same expensive fare that is driving the funk out of the coast side. But I hear the lobster role is good.
