“Bring a tent”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Although Happy Camp is beautiful, accommodations are hard to come by. I would suggest you bring antent or camper, and pack food. Bed was so hard I might as well have been on the ground, barely clean, and the manager had a note on the door to call her Mobil if you need something, but would not answer the phone or door, could see the TV on from the window.

This motel is in a great location, on Highway 96 the Klamath River Highway in Northern California. The hotel is older but in very good shape, the rooms are large and clean and the bed vey comfortable. The price was also really reasonable and the wifi worked well. The ride there on 96 and out over Gray back pass were spectacular. Worth the trip!

We stayed for one night before a river trip on the Klamath, and it was a perfect location with fine accommodations. We appreciated that they had connecting rooms available so our kids could be near us. Rooms were not fancy but were comfortable and had the basics, and the price was great. We also appreciated the satellite TV so we could catch up on the Olympics before leaving for the great outdoors.

I enjoyed my stay here. The front desk manager is very friendly and accommodating. Beautiful flowers are all around. Room was clean. No complaints. EXCELLENT price!

Room Tip: Even though the motel does have free WiFi, it doesn't reach every room or at least it's slow...

This s a delightful little place. I had to do a school program nearby and the school mentioned this place to me and spoke highly of it. And for good reason. It's a little, older motel but what more could you ask? A super comfortable bed, satellite DISH TV, VERY pet friendly (the manager has a beautiful 23 year old cat), fridge, microwave, SUPERB INTERNET (which is important to me) within walking distance of the stores in this little town and the post office. They even gave little sample packets (I got a five blade razor on the day when I was thinking about getting one). No breakfast but you're within a 2 or 3 minutes walk of grocery and restaurants. I could care less in a motel if I'm in a newer room or an older room. This place is (I'm writing it while I'm here) extremely comfortable and I only wish that many other chain motels I stayed at during this 9 month road trip across the United States had so many things RIGHT about it. If you expect a new hotel that's a chain, this isn't it. It's an older motel that's perfect for a long and short stay --- and at a VERY reasonable price.

We stayed here one night. One family in the "old" part and one family in a renovated room. Frankly, you could barely see any difference, except that the bathroom fittings were fresher in the renovated room. Both rooms were perfectly adequate... and very good value for money. I wouldn't stay a week but for an overnight stay - for example before setting off on a rafting trip - I would recommend it.

The owner was friendly and helpful.

This place has some potential and that potential is displayed in half of their rooms. Apparently one section of the motel caught fire awhile back and had to be remodeled. If you are lucky enough to get one of these rooms then you will enjoy your stay, if you end up getting one of the older original rooms you may find yourself disappointed. I ended up with one of the "original" rooms and as the hotel was sold out I had to make due with what I was given. The room was clean for the most part and the bed was fairly comfortable. The maid service seemed to be sporadic as far as the time of the day that the rooms were serviced, one day they were there early and another they didn't arrive until early afternoon. Obviously if you are in Happy Camp you aren't expecting luxurious accommodations so you make the best of the situation presented. This place is popular with the gold prospectors and fisherman that use the klamath river during the day and need a place to rest their heads at night. There is a market up the street and a pizza place and liquor store down the block, other than that this is it for the "town". The hotel does have a gas grill on property so if you bring your own food you may be able to access the grill to cook. There are some really cool swimming holes in the area and the hotel mgr. will be glad to tell you about them. If the second half of the hotel were to be renovated they would move up a notch on the grand scheme of things....so so place overall but your options are VERY limited in this part of the country.

  • Liked — okay place to rest your head at night.
  • Disliked — renovate the entire property, not just half...
