“Great food, warm service. But not a great Inn for staying overnight.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2013

We stayed one night with our dog. Big thumbs up for being such a genuinely dog-friendly inn/hotel.
Pluses - really nice bar area and restaurant - smart but quite informal, stylish and warm. Extremeley nice folk. Great food and wine, we ate very well. And slept in a very comfortable bed.
Minuses - you can't escape the annoying incessant hum of the M6. The location of the inn could hardly be described as 'picturesque'; next to fairly grubby houses, on the A6 and almost opposite a railway line. None of these are anything that management and staff can do anything about, of course.
Our room was clean and smart but very small and not particularly special. Lights weren't bright enough to be useful, only 1 set of towels left for us, plug-in radiator for warming the room... The shower was good but there was no bath. And the hot water had run out at 9am on Sunday (9.30 seems a bit early for 'last orders' for breakfast on a Sunday morning as well). I didn't feel it was worth £125 for a night's B&B.
If I could give 3.5 stars I probably would.

Room Tip: Might be worth asking if rooms at the the back suffer less from road noise. Ours (no 6) was at the f...

Stayed one night in room 2, which was lovely clean room with kingsize bed however way too small for us 3, 3rd being Marlene the labradoodle! We were offered a second night at the same right but a superior but the room size wasnt a massive difference so we left. However a fantastic inn, warm cosey and welcoming with fantastic food (not cheap) but tastey. There isn't masses of choice on the menu, but they have an award at this pubb and quality is definitely there. Very nice and friendly staff with a great breakfast. Well worth staying for a night but I did think 105 including the dog was over priced for such a tiny room and tiny en suite.

Great atmosphere, lovely bar, fantastic restaurant. We had a lovely stay. The room was not big but it was clean. We ate dinner and breakfast here, both excellent. Staff also very accommodating with our bikes.

Have eaten here before and this time used it as a halfway house between home and Oban. Rooms are modern, room 5 has a big bath but as we prefer a shower were moved for the return journey. Food was well above average with friendly fast service. Can use it as a base for the northern lakes but better just to break the journey. Rooms are above the bar and a bit noisy, can hear the M6 nearby.

Its a nice setting on the outside & even inside its got the look & feel of a welcoming restaurant/pub/b&b, however, be warned....

We sat outside on a lovely Summers evening with our friends on our holidays in the Lakes having seen this pub from the road and it seemed inviting, so we checked out the menu and ordered our meals.

A nice gentleman took the order and seemed to know what he was doing and was very efficient (or so it seemed).

BUT....when the meals arrived it was a completely different story....... one meal didn't turn up !... one meal was the wrong meal entirely from what we had ordered !.....and the meals that did turn up were certainly NOT worth the prices that were being charged for them whatsoever in size nor taste.

By the time the last meal came out we had all eaten halfway through our main meals which is never nice for the last person eating.

This was all (apparently) due to the gentleman who took our order getting it muddled up !

So we took his apology gingerly and by now just wanted to leave as the evening was somewhat spoilt by all this.

As we left to pay our friends payed their half and we payed ours (5 meals & 4 soft drinks & a cider £94.00...YEP ! for ordinary pub grub).............it was only a mile down the road that I noticed on the itemised bill we had been overcharged for the extra meal that had turned up (that wasn't ours in the first place)... worth an overpayment of £6.00.... so a quick turnaround and back.... Again we were told it was the gentleman who took our orders' fault and he was very sorry for the muddle up & got a refund of a whole £6.00 ooooh !

Well I am sorry, but this is not good practice in any pub/restaurant, let alone when they charge ridiculous high end charges for food that is only quality worth of a normal town pub grub standard.

Would not go back again and would certainly not recommend !

We stayed one night at the George and Dragon en route to a wedding in Edinburgh. We came across it through an article in the Telegraph and it is definitely better than any other places we've stayed in the Lake District. Whilst the room wasn't large, it was very comfortable with good quality bedding and a good shower in the en suite. The breakfast was nice and it is good to know that everything is locally sourced. We also ate in the restaurant and enjoyed our meals immensely. The staff were helpful and attentive and the service was extremely good. We will definitely come back if we need another stop off in this area.
