We ate here about a year ago and it was good.... but I think we ordered better this visit and it was just outstanding. I would hold this restaurant up against anything in NYC or LA. The service was fabulous and servers worked as a team to meet all of our needs. (well... there was a hiccup with my wine... but the food was so great, i'm overlooking it here.)
The menu was explained to us with great patience and no attitude. Each dish was so very layered. You know you are eating something that has been lovingly and elaborately thought out.
Started with beets in pastry... crunchy and amazing. Also the beef cubes which were also crunchy and had an unexpected sauce. Mains were pork loin-- which was served alongside a pork rib... both delicious and not oversalty. (so often it is.) partner had fish in an urchin sauce (?) which was very complex and yummy.
Desserts were very good, as was the coffee (presse). Again... they have a special blend of formal and casual that really reflects the wine country at its best.
I can't wait to return to spoonbar. It was fantastic, beginning to end.
