As I write this, I see that the reviews vary tremendously. In that regard, I suspect that there is a rather large divide in terms of the standard wine tasting and the lunch/wine pairing. As I went for the lunch/wine pairing/tour, my comments relate solely to that experience. On a recent extended trip, I went to a number of food/wine pairings. What I found interesting (hadn't thought about it previously) is that in contrast to a wine pairing dinner where they are selecting wines to go with the food, the chefs at the wineries are seeking to develop dishes to complement the wines. While this may seem obvious, I mention it as I believe many of Seghesio's wines, in particular, are better enjoyed with food. In my parlance, they are not the type of wines that I would open and drink watching a nice sunset. All that said, their family table tasting experience (we did the mixed group in the Founder's Room) was spectacular. It started with a tour and tasting experience in the cellar where we had the opportunity to sample some of their homemade salumi, matched to different wines. The following meal and wines were all excellent. The dishes are seasonal, and all were creative, delicious and all perfectly paired. Courses included sea urchin risotto, pork belly, pasta with morels and a beautiful lamb chop. Be warned: this is a lot of food and wine--easily in excess of what you might get at a wine pairing dinner elsewhere. In contrast to other reviews, all of the staff were excellent--knowledgeable, pleasant and attentive. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area. Well worth the price.
