“Charming, spectacular and exceeding all expectations”
Reviewed 31 August 2009

For our three year anniversary, my boyfriend and I decided to book a long weekend in wine country to celebrate. Both east coasters, we had never been to sonoma and really had no idea where to go. So as I was doing my research I came across BVM and decided to chance the stay based on the reviews I read and the pictures I saw - I can truly say we were not disappointed in the least as it could not have been a more amazing experience.

From the moment we arrived Jerry and Harold went above and beyond to make our experience so memorable. From upgrading our room to the French room (all the rooms are gorgeous and you can't go wrong with any of them, but the french room was absolutely beautiful with side balcony which proved priceless when I had to take a work conference call early one morning and got to see the colors change as the sun rose over the scenery down below ( their property sits on a hill) as that made the call bearable). It wasn't simply the house or the room that made the vacation so special - it was the personal touches - Harold and Jerry couldn't do enough for us. From customizing our wine touring routes every day based on our likes and dislikes, recommending and booking restaurants for us in the area, creating absolutely delicious and amazing breakfasts for us every morning, offering to take care of wine shipping logistics for us, checking in with us all the time about how they could help us and the afternoons of cocktails and hors d'oevres which I loved, everything was just exceptional. We laughed our afternoons away getting to know the other guests and relaxing on their patio in one of the most picturesque scenes imaginable. At BVM, Jerry and Harold make you feel like you're an old friend and a part of their home. They are both so kind, energetic, warm and charming and BVM is a perfect extension of them. They are so knowledgeable about the area from the restaurants to the wineries, no amount of research could have come close to what they knew. Jerry and Harold truly put their guests' every whim at the forefront of their concern all of the time - there wasn't anything they wouldn't haven't done to enhance our experience, and quite frankly, they far exceeded anything I could have envisioned.

To be honest, when I booked the reservation, it was on a whim - I have booked hotels and been sorely disappointed - that was not the case with BVM. This is the first such review I've written and I gladly say my boyfriend and I are already planning a return trip next year and my parents are planning to stay there this fall as well. Such spectacular places should be recognized, and for any of you looking for a wonderful place to stay - none of these reviews lie - this place is amazing. For my boyfriend and I, we were both ecstatically pleased and would give it the highest reviews we can and recommend it to anyone looking to go out there.

This was our first trip to Healdsburg, but will go back to the Bella Villa Messina. You feel so welcome, Jerry and Harold are so knowledgeable of the area, and will make sure you do everything you set out to do. We feel like they are family, and cant wait to go back to see more wineries, but equally to see Jerry and Harold. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks Jerry and Harold!

Our 3-night stay at BVM was exceptional from the moment we arrived (which was during their wine & cheese social time!) We immediately felt like family as we were welcomed by Jerry and Harold and taken into their beautiful home. Their wonderful breakfasts, as well as their knowledge of the area and recommendations, were priceless. Jerry is the consummate host, and we will definitely be visiting BVM again! It was obvious why another couple, who was there at the same time as us, had been visiting every year for their anniversary for the last 9 years! A PERFECT 10!

We just returned home from a 3 night stay at Bella Villa Messina. This was our first visit to Wine Country and we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. We will definitely be back and won't ever think of staying anywhere but Bella Villa Messina. Jerry and Harold are such wonderful hosts.

We arrived without any agenda or list of wineries we wanted to visit... I am glad we did because Jerry helped us each day to map out great places to go even tipping us off to some deals/sales area wineries were having at the time. Not only would Jerry point out the best wineries to visit, he would also point out great places along the way to pick up a sandwich for lunch and then which winery had the best picnic area to enjoy lunch. Jerry even sensed when I was a little "wined out" and helped us plan a wonderful day to Armstrong Woods and just a few wineries.

Every night it was so relaxing to visit with Jerry and Harold and the other guests on the patio over wine and cheese. Both Jerry and Harold have so much information to share about the region and those who live and work there. It really enhanced our trip to learn not only what wineries to visit but to understand the history of the winery.

Every morning we were treated to a wonderful breakfast. I would wake up each day and the whole house would be full of the smells of breakfast baking. It was wonderful. We would all visit with Jerry and Harold over breakfast and it was such a relaxing way to start each day.

Our room was perfect. ... comfortable, spacious, clean, and full of character. The location cannot be beat. We were just a few minutes drive from the Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley.

We only had one night at the Bella Villa, but we couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience. Our room was luxurious but comforting, Jerry went out of his way to ensure our time there was what we wanted, and those killer blueberry pancakes have to be experienced!

We are just hours back from a delightful four-night stay at Bella Villa Messina. Although we have traveled the Sonoma Wine Country several times in years past, this trip was the most enjoyable of all, thanks to the hospitality of Jerry & Harold. Our room, the "Sake", was very nicely appointed and just the right environment for a great night's sleep. Breakfasts were tasty, prepared by Jerry, and thank goodness none of his recipes are big secrets. He was willing even to share the secret of the sky-high Texas pancakes, which are a "wow". Everything said about Harold's famous carrot cake is true & he also treated guests to fresh-baked bread.

But the best part of the stay was getting to know Jerry, Harold & the family of dogs & llamas. They know the wine country...and the wine country knows them. Their knowledge & contacts made this trip the best Wine trek ever.

When we were planning our first trip to California, as usual, we relied on TA reviews. The reviews for Bella Villa Messina were quite impressive. Each one was positive. Nothing negative. Our review will not change what those have previously written.
Bella Villa Messina is a wonderful place to stay. The owners, Jerry and Harold, have gone to great lengths to provide a home away from home. The manner in which they welcome their guests is warm and friendly. They cannot do enough for you, from restaurant recommendations to suggestions for winery visits. Need a reservation?, they take care of it. Need to get up early for a tour? Coffee will be ready, and how about some fresh fruit to take along?
We spent four nights at Bella the last week of June, staying in the Burgundy Room, and havd the opportunity to see the other 4 rooms. We would not hesitate to stay in any of the rooms. Each one is beautifully decorated and spacious, with separate bathrooms, some with jacuzzi tubs.
A great breakfast is provided each morning. Wine and cheese served late afternoon/early evening. A very large patio with cushioned chairs serves as a place to gather in the evening with new found friends and bottle(s) of wine, while taking in the 360 degree view from the hilltop location.
Everything we were looking for? You bet, and much more. Our next trip to California will include another stay at Bella Villa Messina. We highly recommend it to others.
