We have stayed at The Calderwood Inn now 3 times. Every time we have had such a wonderful experience. Mary the Inn keeper is so warm & welcoming. She goes above & beyond to make sure you have all you need & have a great trip. The Breakfast is very impressive! Wine & Cheese hour is not to be missed. The rooms are nice & there all different. The place is very clean & cozy! We feel in love with Healdsburg & this B & B. We decided to get married there & the entire wedding party is staying at the B & B. This will probably be our Anniversary spot for years to come.

I did not like having my bathroom outside of my room (even if it was only for my use). Also I would have liked a fresh towel each day. The bathroom was very tiny and two people could not be in there at the same time. The faucets in the bathroom sink were separate, hot and cold so you could not get a mix, you either had extremely hot water or just cold water.

We found the Calderwood Inn through a web booking site when looking for options in Healdsburg for the Thanksgiving weekend. The price was good, so we booked the three nights for the holiday. A few days after booking the innkeeper, Kendra, contacted us to ask if we could check in early, between 11A and 1P, so they could give their staff the afternoon and evening off. That started a back and forth communication with Kendra where she made recommendations for places to eat, and place for activities we were interested in while in town.

When we checked in Kendra greeted us as and directed us to our room while she retrieved a bottle of wine for us; since the staff was off they were canceling their standard evening wine social and giving guests bottle of wine to enjoy as an alternative. The inn was a nice Victorian, nicely furnished, and in generally good condition (there are a few places in the house that could use some touchup on the paint). The bathroom was nice, especially the tub large enough for two! The in-room TV's are showing their age (CRT), but the WiFi was very good with enough bandwidth that most guests seemed to be streaming NetFlix on their own devices, including us.

The staff was overall excellent. Kendra, Cindy (?) and Mary all made us feel at home and were checking regularly to make sure we had what we needed and offering to help in any way they could. The rooms were clean when we arrived and the staff brought them back to that condition everyday.

The breakfasts were excellent, substantial enough but not too heavy. About the only complaint I could have it nit-picking is the timing: we like ot have full days of activity and the 9AM for breakfast is a bit late for us who are generally out and about by that hour.

The biggest benefit for us of this Inn was the location. We have stayed at other places in Healdsburg, usually a bit further out from the town center/plaza. The Calderwood Inn was close enough we could walk anywhere in the town center, it was easy for us to leave town on our bikes, and one of our favorite wineries (Seghesio) was a two minute walk. We did not drive anywhere for more than 48 hours from Thursday afternoon to Saturday afternoon.

Overall a place we will keep in mind and try to book whenever we head back to the area.

We chose the Calderwood Inn based upon its ratings on tripadvisor. I am so glad we did. It was our first time in Sonoma and the inn was the perfect place for us to call home for a few days. The inn was beautifully maintained and was charming and welcoming. Both Mary and Kendra were fabulous. All of their recommendations, ranging from restaurants to wineries to running paths, were fantastic. Our breakfasts were delicious and started the day off just right. The close proximity to town made it easy to walk anywhere but still off main drag so it was quiet and peaceful. I have to say one of our favorite parts was wine on the porch at 5pm. We met some amazing people and it was a great way to end the day. I would highly recommend the Calderwood to both first time and regular visitors!

We arrived in Healdsburg at 4pm, jet lagged and without a place to stay for the night. The Camellia Inn was fully booked but they kindly recommended the Calderwood Inn and phoned to check availability. We got the last room!
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel at home by Kendra, the young Innkeeper. She made recommendations of places to eat, phoned the restaurant to reserve a table and even printed off a map with directions of how to get there on foot.
An earlier reviewer has criticised the Jaxon Keys room in which they stayed. We also occupied this room. Whilst it was disappointing not to have had a proper shower over the bath, the bedroom itself was perfectly adequate and comfortable.
The public rooms and front porch/veranda are spacious and airy. Complimentary wine and cheese with crackers are laid out on the veranda for guests in the late afternoon. This is an excellent way to meet the other guests staying in the Inn.
This beautifully restored Victorian mansion has recently been acquired by the owners of the Wilson Winery and there are signs that they intend to renovate and restore the property and it's extensive gardens.
Having said all that, a very big thank you to Kendra for making The Calderwood such a home from home. She was the real star of the show!

Calderwood has a superb suite with a separate entrance. Pet friendly with plenty of room to roam. Earlier this year, my wife and our Welsh terrier Bessie enjoyed a warm, friendly weekend. Wonderful breakfasts and evening warm tasting on the front porch. Reserve early - it's very popular!

Room Tip: One suite for pets - so book early.

Booked this as a Wilson Club Member and what a wonderful trip! Inn is situated a few blocks from the downtown area so it was an easy 5 to 10 minute walk to any of the great Healdsburg restaurants. We checked in around 4 on a Tuesday and Inn keeper Mary greeted us and showed us around. Wine hour on the large a porch starts at 5 so she prepared us a platter of cheese and wines so that we could relax. The Inn is beautiful, very quaint and most rooms are upstairs. Beds are absolutely super comfy!!! We had the Mazzocco room and could not hear any noise from the adjacent rooms even though the Inn was booked. The grounds were beautiful and once you were checked in you pretty much had free roam of the home. Mary's Breakfasts at 9am were excellent and she was extremely helpful at securing reservations for dinner or any private wine tastings. I found her extremely nice and would definitely return! I can't wait for the next visit!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Known on the California and Sonoma County Landmarks Registry as the John Miller House, this historic Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1902. Miller was a prominent fruit grower, packer and dehydrator in the early 1900s. He was also one of the first to make a commercial business of marketing dehydrated fruit. Among Miller's claims to fame is that he was the first provider to the U.S. Military of dehydrated foods. Known as K-rations during WW I and MREs today, Miller was cited by the military for "feeding the troops during WW I". (1) Miller and his wife were, like many prominent citizens of the community, anxious to furnish their home lavishly. The home is reputed to be the first in Healdsburg with two bathrooms, with indoor plumbing upstairs and downstairs. The noted horticulturist, Luther Burbank, was a good friend and assisted in the design and development of the original landscape at the front of the home, some of which remains today. The large cedar, cypress, and redwood heritage trees were planted by Burbank over 100 years ago. The lush grounds have been accented with rose bushes and numerous flowering shrubs. The same archaeological report from Sonoma State University indicates that some of the first plantings of some of Burbank's new species were planted on the Miller property. Sadly, the location and botanical name of the plants were never recorded. It is unknown if they remain on the property today. The home remained in the Miller family until the late 1930s and was a private residence until the early 1980s when it became a Bed and Breakfast. The inn has undergone extensive restoration over the years. Beautiful hand-silk screened period wall and ceiling papers accent the spacious common areas and some guest rooms. The papers are produced by Bradbury & Bradbury of Benicia, CA and are based on designs of William Morris, a prominent textile designer of the mid- to late 1800s.The formal, yet welcoming rooms include a spacious parlor with fireplace-the perfect place to enjoy the morning paper or a board game on a quiet afternoon. The spacious dining room that seats up to 14 showcases original wainscoting and built-in china cabinet and bench. The large antique table is where guests dine on Calderwood's signature gourmet breakfasts. The covered front porch with its antique wicker furniture and lacquered floor beckons you to enjoy the lush grounds, review the activities of your day or curl up with a good book. The porch is often used by local wineries who frequently co-host our complimentary evening wine hour. All nine guest rooms have private baths. Each room is decorated differently to incorporate an extensive collection of beautiful, yet comfortable period ... more   less
