We stayed at the Calderwood Inn on what has become an annual trip to Healdsburg. We chose to stay here since other B&Bs we have stayed in (Honor Mansion, Madrona Manor) were booked. The only good things we experienced with the Calderwood Inn were its proximity to downtown Healdsburg and its bocce ball court.

The rest was not good. The air conditioning was broken when we arrived around 3:00pm, but they didn’t have anyone service it until the next day. It was extremely hot in the rooms (as the outside temperature was about 100 degrees in the afternoon) and management offered nothing for our sleepless night except the comment that it’s hard to sleep when it’s so hot. Yes, it is. I should have paid closer attention when we booked that breakfast was communal and was not until 9am. This was a little late for us central time-zoners and didn’t allow the flexibility we normally like to have on vacation. Our room did not have a stand-up shower in the bathroom, just a claw foot tub with a hand shower. It was fine for me, but difficult for my 6’3” husband to bathe. The decor, while trying to keep true to its Victorian roots, was becoming shabby. The dresser in our room had nails rolling around in the drawer. And, the couches on the front porch had cushions that badly needed replacing. All in all, for $360/night, I was extremely disappointed in our experience. We will not be returning.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback following your recent stay at the inn and it is regrettable that you did not enjoy your visit, particularly concerning the issues that occurred with the air conditioning on Friday evening. Sadly, a fellow guest had removed the protective case from the wall and tampered with the thermostat, thus causing the system to freeze and shut down completely. Unfortunately, this was not diagnosed and brought to our attention until the evening, which made it difficult to secure maintenance until the next morning, which was the earliest appointment available. Again, we apologize for this inconvenience and we do completely understand how this would have made your evening uncomfortable.

With regards to the breakfast time of 9:00am, we do enjoy a lovely sit down breakfast with all of our guests, which we discuss at check-in and in several e-mail confirmations, as well as on the policy page for the inn. We are happy to provide alternatives at an earlier hour though, if it is requested, as guests may want to have an early start. Similarly, the bathroom arrangements can be found on our website for all of our rooms. While it is true that not all rooms have modern, standard showers and baths, as we are a historical building, we do try and have all of the amenities that guests request.

We do appreciate the comment regarding the status of the cushions on the front porch and we will look to obtain replacements as soon as we are able. If you would be open to returning again in the future, please do reach out to us directly when reserving, as we would be happy to discuss our room options at the inn in further detail to ensure that your next stay with us is much more enjoyable overall. We do appreciate all of your feedback, as it will help us create a better experience for our guests in the future. Thanks again.

We had a nice time at the Calderwood Inn. It is very conveniently located to downtown Healdsburg, only about a 10 minute walk, which was ideal for us: close to restaurants but not having to worry about parking in town.
We stayed in the Greenwood Ridge room, which is accessed via the garden (rather than through the lobby in the house). The bed was okay, but a little softer than I like. The bathroom was a decent size but entry into the shower was quite a high step. It was a little noisy in the morning as the dining room where breakfast is served is directly above, and being an older home, the floors are somewhat creaky.
We only partook of breakfast one of the two nights we spent there, but it was extremely tasty and plentiful!
The grounds of the hotel are lovely; we spent an hour in the garden relaxing one afternoon listening to the wind whistling through the pines.
The gentleman running the hotel was extremely kind and generous. We spoke with him a few times prior to arriving, and he was very accommodating. And on checkout, he offered us a few bottles of wine from the Wilson Artisan family of wineries.

This is a beautiful home on the edge of town - a nice walk from the plaza. Much of the common rooms and bedrooms are decorated with intricate and unique wallpaper patterns that play off of some of the original details and moldings in the home. There’s also a large porch and nice gardens to enjoy. The hosts served a nice breakfast and also an evening wine and cheese. The guests were all very impressed - and happy. We had an upstairs bedroom that was quiet and comfortable. All the rooms have their own bathrooms.

I only have amazing things to say about the Calderwood Inn. Five star, first class service from the moment you walk in the door. I had never stayed at a B&B before however I am now a convert and will definitely be back! Delicious breakfast, beautiful, CLEAN, rooms, and super friendly staff. Thank you so much!!

Room Tip: La Dormier was great!

We booked due to the reviews and were not disappointed. We arrived mid morning and luckily our rooms were ready so we were able to leave our bags and go off wine tasting. We had two large rooms ( daughter travelling with us) ground floor, accessed outside and both were very good, really comfortable beds, big TV’s, A/C that worked, and large shower and toilet - very different to some of the reviews of rooms in the main part of the house. Lovely outside seating area by each room, although not clean from leaves on the seats. Wine offered at set time in the evening which we had on the pretty veranda on the swing chair. Nice touch in the morning with a pretty good cooked brekkie and it was a set time as well to encourage guests to meet and talk and manager joined to take part - although she did not eat. All good, however, the style of the house is ‘quaint’ read, old fashioned even tired and looks like your nan lives there. Friendly staff and the offer of free tasting at their own wineries, although we did not use them so can’t comment. Also had bikes to use if that way inclined

Thank you for the great review! We're happy to hear that your family had a nice stay with us and were able to take advantage of the welcome wine reception, as well as the delicious breakfasts. The front porch is definitely the perfect spot to unwind with a glass of wine in the evening and, once you've had enough, the beds are just heavenly. We truly cherish the charm of the historic property and, although we often utilize period pieces to highlight the inn's Victorian era motif, all furnishings are regularly updated to offer a modern touch as well. We hope to welcome everyone back again soon!
