Owner description: Diamond Valley Lake is a drinking water reservoir built, owned and operated by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. This reservoir is an important component to providing water for 18 million Southern Californians, and is a critical lifeline in times of drought. To protect this resource, no body contact with the water is permitted. However, the Diamond Valley Aquatic Center, located near the entrance to the lake, allows for plenty of fun in the water. The Diamond Valley Visitor Center and the Western Science Center, which houses 1 million paleo and archaeo artifacts found during the construction of the Lake, are also located at the entrance to Diamond Valley Lake. The Lake and the surrounding hills have also become known for the spectacular wildflower blooms each spring, and are popular among hikers. Non-motorized bicycles are also permitted on the Lake View Trail, and equestrians can enjoy the North Hills Trail.

Man made, huge project. Dinosaur bones found during dig and closed part of site while archeologists excavated.

“A Magnificent Accomplishment and Amazing Project~!”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Great educational stop to visit this huge California Water Project.....EMWD water source. Also good fishing, boating, and terrific scenery. Boat rentals on WED is 1/2 off and a fun way to spend the day and enjoy lunch from your cooler. Spectacular views of the valley from all points in this huge lake. Only draw back is NO BODY CONTACT....so forget swimming on a hot day. Several great look out points that explain the development of this reservoir.

“Big, beautiful lake”
Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

Diamond Valley Lake is a surprise find just South of Hemet. It is avery large lake that allows only fishing and limited boating activities on it. But there is a hiking trail completely around it for hiking and biking. In the spring there is a wildflower trail. And be sure to take in the free museum at the bottom of the hill where you can learn all about the development of the lake.
