Sometimes on Saturdays when my children were little, we would take some time to drive down to Casa de Fruita, a little attraction in the North Valley you may wish to visit when driving to the Gilroy Outlets, Gilroy Gardens or even Carmel or Monterey. It is the perfect place for children of all ages to enjoy. The location is encircled by a charming choo choo train that shows each historical aspect of the place during its drive around it, and other various buildings, specialties like desserts, sandwiches, ice cream and candy. There is even a Merry-go-round and a little zoo to enjoy! In September, the annual Shakespeare Festival takes place there, and in October, you cannot find a more complete pumpkin patch. The little store boasts produce fresh from surrounding farms. Take some time to stop there to experience country life in California. You won't be disappointed!

My husband and I have driven by Casa de Fruta numerous times and finally stopped a year and a half ago after my son and daughter-in-law's wedding. We ate at the restaurant and shopped at the market. After attending a wedding in Santa Barbara then driving to Sunnyvale, we decided to drive west on 152 and have breakfast, again, at Casa de Fruta Restaurant. Again, the breakfast was superior!!! This time, Alice, our waitress, encouraged us to visit the Casa de Fruta Winery and Casa de Fruita Candy Shop. We heard a noise that sounded like children crying and realized there were peacocks, so we walked around the pond, up into the view area and down where there were dozens of peacocks "communicating". We only saw four or five peacocks, but must have been dozens!! We also noticed old farming equipment from the late 1800's and early 1900's which was so surreal!!!.
My husband and I thought that the original owner must have been a genius, a visionary to plan this farming property. Of course, we read that the future heirs kept improving this property!
Honestly, as a former English, History teacher and school administrator, I believe this should be a California Historical Monument!!!
Another Bucket List place to visit if you are over 50 or 60.

If you are driving north to San Jose there are miles of driving with virtually no places to stop along the way. Casa de Fruta is a good rest stop in Hollister with a restaurant, RV park and expansive gift, fruit, souvenir and candy shop. The restaurant is decent but somewhat overpriced. The gift shop has all types of interesting jellies, candies, juices and fruits. Due to it's isolation along the highway, the management must feel they can get away with charging very high prices in the gift shop. I would definitely consider this place to be somewhat of a tourist trap although it is nice to have this place to stop and refresh oneself. I would certainly avoid buying much in their shop. Casa de Fruta is in a nice valley with old farm tools and machines on display throughout the grounds. Peacocks walk freely and parking is easy.

This is for the Casa de Fruta RV park.

Simple!!! We loved it. No more than a half hour from Gilroy/Hollister and only 45 mins from the beach. The bathrooms are well kept and the showers are as hot as you want them to be. The RV spaces on the grass were great and the RV staff friendly and very helpful. They gave a "Good Sam" discount.

I shall say it again....the bathrooms were clean!!!! We loved it. Great place to stay this time of year. We even had peacocks visit us in the morning. How fun to feed them!!

We were on a road trip to Monterey and this place had been suggested to us as a good place to buy local produce. Also labeled a "tourist trap". We stopped and had a great time browsing. What a wonderful example of the incredible agriculture in central California! Found many special gifts to bring home to Texas.

I stay here throughout the Nor Cal Renaissance Faire Season, every weekend. The staff is super friendly, the place is always fun, and everyone is great. The park itself is old, but everything works and it has great trees. Don't park under a walnut tree, you'll be "squirrel bombed" all night.

Within walking distance is everything you may need, and I had a peek inside the motel for a huge surprise... it is REALLY nice! I mean, I've stayed in 4 star hotels that weren't as nice. The outside is pretty shabby, but the inside where it counts is fantastic! The pool looks nice, and there's loads of things for the littles to do. Bring bikes, there's lots of places to ride around on too. COME TO FAIRE!!!

Room Tip: I would ask for rooms away from the street.

Casa De Fruta
Not just a great place to catch a Great meal on road trip thru...
But most defiantly worth the hour or so ride from the North Bay for a great meal!
Week days tend to be less crowded then weekends... Especially during special events like the Renascence Fair! So if crowds and extreme fun are not your thing .... Spending a quiet meal against the flow of the North Bay crowds ...Casa is well worth the drive for a mid-week treat! And taking home some fresh seasonal goods ... Like ... Local preserves and honey... And some award wining wines with their own wine tasting room, and seasonal fresh fruit stand!... You really have it all...some great gift ideas for any occassion!
And.... If the wine tasting lasts just a bit longer then you planed... There is a RV camp site ,and motel on the property!

During our Mid-Week visit We had
The Prime Rib Combo...
Combo meaning along with 8oz cut of Prime Rib to order you have a choice of Salmon or Deep fried Shrimp! Dinner included soup/or/salad , fresh baked dinner bread, choice of potato and fresh cooked veggies ! I orders a glass of their award winning Pomegranate Wine! We did not have room for desert but we could not leave without taking our favorite home made items to go!
Total bill for ..drinks, meal, & dessert for two... $61.12 such a deal! For those on a budget and working the family plan, kids menus are available and a verity of regular and special items are available !
They hold family's in mind thru out the design of this awesome oasis!
