“Enjoyed the stay, but it could have been better.”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

After my family's terrible experience at a Hyatt Place in San Jose last month, I was having second thoughts on staying at another Hyatt, but I've been to this property before and I liked it.

Upon arrival, Kristina from the front desk checked in my family. Exceptional customer service!

Tons of stuff to do and places to go in and out of the hotel. The room was a different story though. My family were in room 3124 where there is only the full view of Pete's Sunset Grille's roof where you can find a lot clutters including cigarette butts, empty water bottles, etc...

Then, night time comes. I usually don't mind having to hear free live band from the outside to the comfort of my room, but I had my 5month old daughter and that didn't work out too well.

I guess it's safe to say that room 3124 might be a better option for hotel parties and not so much for a simple and quiet family getaway.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your experience at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa in August. We appreciate your recognizing the quality of service provided by front desk associate Kristina and regret the location of your room was addressed at that time. I can assure you we've made the necessary checks on the condition of the roof top to ensure those items were removed. We do hope you will return when traveling to the Southern California coast and hope you'll give us another opportunity to make your stay exceptional.

This is the fourth time I have been to the hotel and will likely be the last. It is in a great location as it is a short walk to town and to the beach but the hotel is not what it once was. Rooms are a little tired and service spotty. Despite having status with Hyatt it took us a while to get a room and we had to change from the first one they gave us because it was exactly the opposite of what we requested, We requested a high quiet floor and they first took us to a one right on street level. So we had to move and wait again. I don't know if the front desk person did this on purpose but she must have or was not listening. She was also very patronizing.
No one seems to be in charge or care about your experience until you complain. I will say that when I did complain the Managers at the front desk were nice and did provide compensation. Lots of kids around so no room at pool at times during our stay and unless you went after a person at the pool there was no real service for food. Breakfast buffet was average despite the high price and you had to wait forever for service at the egg station. Service was also generally slow. Valets were nice but it took too long to get your car (and you pay like $35 per night for that service). Public areas were not very clean and turn down service was inconsistent.
Biggest problem though is that there seems to be little concern for safety. Huntington Beach has a lot of homeless and there is no one to prevent anyone from entering the property. They should have a security person or gate or something because quite often we saw people that gave us concern for our personal well being.
This used to be a great property with a lot of pride but it is not anymore and I think there are better alternatives in the area.

Beautiful and well-maintained property, plenty of amenities (I especially enjoyed the pools and on-site market 'Surf City Grocers'), and great location. You could spend several days here and never feel the need to leave the resort - and given the price, that may be just the way to go!

Enjoyed a three-night stay in a SoCal suite at the Hyatt, and thoroughly recommend the property. The hotel was sold-out during our stay, but as a credit to the size of the resort and varied offerings it has, it never felt crowded. Room was tremendous with a partial ocean view off long terrace. Two full bathrooms make it a great option for families or traveling groups of friends. Grounds were meticulously maintained, service was friendly, valet parking well executed, and the location is fantastic for both day trips/dinners in LA or San Diego, or as a base to explore Orange County. Highly recommended property. Not cheap, but value for dollar offers an excellent return on travel dollars. If you want super high-end accommodations you might be a bit disappointed, but if you are looking for a nice resort and a great experience, this hotel is a great option in Southern California.

Room Tip: Rooms on the far sides of the property seem to be quietest.

Hotel has very good service. But is not one I would visit again. Was booked in for 5 nights. On arrival we were greeted with drunken people walking around the entrance. Location leave a lot to be desired. we came form the Del Mar in San Diego and this was quite a let down for us. As a result we checked out early after only 2 nights.
High lights are that it is close to the beach. The suite we had was excellent in terms of size but the bedding was mediocre.
Unfortunately there is a great big road running between the hotel and the beach. There is a walk way provided to get you across to the beach. Here you can grab chairs, which are heavy, to take down to the beach.
Our room over looked the beach via the road. unable to open our windows and use balcony due to traffic noise.
Kids enjoyed the beach.
There is a kids pool which reminds me of Brighton, shoulder to shoulder setting, at height of summer.
There restaurant choice is limited with waiting times of 20+ mins for Breakfast.
Overall I would not go back to this hotel nor can I recommend it. If you don't mind noise and BIG hotels than this will do nicely.
Not the sort of place we have like.
Again, staff very friendly. Regard this hotel as 4 star.

Room Tip: Don't go fro anything over looking beach - its really over looking a major road w+ car park.

We stayed here for 2 nights after spending 4 nights at the Hyatt by Disney, and the bill for our 2 night stay plus incidentals came out to more than the 4 nights at Hyatt Disney PLUS 3-day Disney tickets for a family of 4. It was a nice stay, but a little pricey for what it was. When you pull into the driveway, right off the bat you are charged $35/night for valet parking. I had read reviews saying you can park at the city lot across the street for $15/night, but when I asked about that option at the front desk, the lady told me it's $30/night to self park at the city lot, so we may as well pay $35 for valet parking. Then as other reviewers mentioned, it's a $35/day resort fee and if you want to use the Hyatt chairs and umbrellas at the beach, it's an additional cost of $20/day unless you want to carry them yourself from the hotel down to the beach, which isn't the shortest walk.

The room itself was just average and could use updating. Our partial ocean view meant you could see the ocean out of the corner of your eye. On a positive note, this hotel has the best towels and bedsheets - very soft and smelled like laundry detergent/fabric softener instead of the harsh chemical smell you get at some other hotels. Even the hotels at the pools were very soft. That was really nice. The hotel grounds are very nice, which is what you are paying for when you stay here. Our kids enjoyed feeding the koi fish in front of the spa, the kids activities like the water balloon toss and the free smores kit was an excellent touch. Very much appreciated. The pools were wonderful. Our kids liked the kids pools with the water slides, but that was much too crowded so we set up camp at the other pool the second day. It was a bit more peaceful. The hot tubs were really nice too. The beach/ocean was a bit too cold for swimming, but our daughter had fun playing in the surf.

Our stay included free breakfast, and we found that the a la carte items were much better than the buffet. So definitely order off the menu. The food off the menu was delicious! The food at this hotel, both in restaurants and by the pool, was reasonably priced and service was excellent for the most part.

All in all, it was a good stay and the perfect spot to unwind after 3 hectic days at Disney.

We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed the hotel. well situated, with valet parking $35. Hotel is big, with lots of facilities as published. We used the shuttle service to Disney, provided by the hotel which was excellent. Rooms were good and the access to the beach was excellent.
