Idyllwild was a pleasant surprise for a TT campground. The grounds were well taken care of, the pool had plenty of tables and chairs, the lodge was nice and clean, etc. The biggest shortcoming was that there were very few sewer sites.
Another big drawback was indigenous to the area: being in the mountains, a lot of the sites were very slanted and tricky to get in and out of. Part of the problem is that the ground in the area is mostly decomposed granite and the entries to many of the sites have soft shoulders. There was no way we could get into and out of the site we were in (one of the few sewer sites available) without driving well into the site across the road. We tried to back directly into the site from the narrow road but the sides of the entry were just soft sand traps such that our motorhome kept bottoming out.More
