Woodland Park Manor
Reviewed 17 February 2014

Woodland Park Manor has two sets of options to rent. One is on their actual property, in duplex cabins. The second option is their larger rental cabins that are located off their main property. We stayed in one of the duplexes. It was a large unit with a fireplace and two queen sized beds (one in the main room, one in a little nook - maybe the "dining room"? There is a small galley- like kitchen attached which has everything you need for your stay - stove, oven, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Although you bring all of your own food, the kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans and cooking utensils. The units are clean, if a little outdated, with a fireplace and floor to ceiling windows along one side allowing for great light. We also greatly appreciated that the place is dog-friendly with no extra deposit.

The grounds are welcoming - with a pool and some picnic tables outside. We spotted a couple of rabbits hopping around as well. The property is just under a mile to the center of town, which makes for a long-ish walk, or a very short drive. Staff are courteous, and there is a DVD library in the office.

Overall, it's a great value for the area, and good for an extended stay, or family stay.

My husband and I brought our red doberman with us to this 'dog friendly' Oak Park Manor in Idyllwild, California. I had no idea how absolutely splendid our two night/three day stay would be. The air is fresh. The sound? None. The peace? Everywhere. I found myself unwinding, reading books, taking a swim in their delightful pool, taking nature walks and just enjoying the surrounding of our cabin. The bathroom was large and roomy. Everything was exceptionally clean, and all the kitchen appliances worked perfectly. This location is just far enough distance from town that you feel like you are truly 'getting-away-from-it-all.' The Innkeeper's Denise and Colin were friendly and attentive. I can't wait to book another min-getaway for the fall. This is one of those rare gems that you don't want to miss. I will add photos later. If you live in San Diego, the drive is so simple. The 15 to Temecula and head North East. The drive is just under two hours from Rancho Santa Fe.

Room Tip: I would recommend the the cottage cabin with the large view of the trees. We stayed in 4A and loved...

We just came back from a three night stay. We rented the Cottage in the Woods cabin which was absolutely perfect. All the cabins and cottages along the way looked amazing and we were very quickly impressed with the wonderful service at the front desk. But once we found our Cottage in the Woods and followed its private driveway all the way up to a very private cottage hidden from view, we were sold!

For starters, the place is a very charming and cozy cabin. It had a full kitchen that's also fully equipped with pots, pans, utensils, plates etc. There's even two rolls of paper towels, dish soap and cooking spices. This was all very important because cookware is heavy to transport. Next, the bedroom/fireplace was perfect. Not once did the cabin get cold the heater is great and kept the place at a perfect temperature. There was a blizzard outside and I was wearing a tank top inside. The tv was great, a very nice plasma. The bathroom also came fully equipped with more towels than anyone could possibly need and plenty of bath tissue. The hot water came quickly and lasted as long as you wanted for both the kitchen and shower.

The place was very secure and clean. The staff was very nice. They even shoveled the snow from the front steps of our little patio all the way up the driveway to the main street. Our car got snowed in and since we're from the city we had no idea how to properly remove a car from ice and snow and they kindly helped and gave us tips until we were safe to leave.

We have absolutely no complaints, only great things to say about the place. I was hesitant to write a review because I wanted this place to stay as a hidden gem. But it truly is an incredibly beautiful place to stay.

We just got back from our stay in the Azalea Creek cabin. The place was ample sized with two fairly large bedrooms and an open kitchen/family room. Everything was very clean and nice. The kitchen was well stocked with a variety of items. The large, sectional couch in the family room was very comfortable and there was a long table that easily accommodated 8 or more. Across the driveway is a detached guest house that you could have for additional rent, but since we were a small party, we didn't need it.

But the best thing was the location. We sat right on Tahquitz Creek and the view was really lovely. Our neighbors were well hidden by trees, so it felt very private. The cabin has lots of windows, so it really takes advantage of the view. It's about a 2 mile walk into town, so it may or may not be walkable, depending on your level of fitness.

The only drawback was the Wi-fi internet was not working (wi-fi being one of the reasons we chose the cabin.) I know this happens everywhere, but we spoke to the proprietors a few times about this and they never even offered to come up and look at it. Even if there was nothing they could do, I think they should have made the effort. Since my husband and I had a little work we needed to get done during the week, they suggested we go into town and use the wi-fi at one of the cafes. Not a very workable suggestion since I don't think any business wants you to take up one of their tables for a few hours so you can work.

Wi-fi aside, we had a great trip. The main office offers DVD, games and sleds for you to borrow and firewood to purchase.

We would definitely recommend this cabin.

To begin with, I've never heard of a place that allowed NO cancellations during the 90 day period prior to the first date of your visit. That alone should have tipped me off.

Unfortunately, I believed the good reviews on this site. Either the other cabins are much nicer or it's another case of friends helping friends deceive the public.

We stayed in cabin 5a. In that cabin, the thermostat has two settings: uncomfortably hot and uncomfortably cold (our stay was over Thanksgiving weekend). It was impossible to find a happy medium, although we kept trying. The male proprietor hit us with a list of rules when we came in without welcoming us. He was curt and unfriendly. (The female proprietor couldn't have been nicer, but we didn't see her until checkout time.)

The most serious problem was that the grating for the heat is on the floor on the way to the kitchen--and almost impossible to avoid stepping on. The grating gets hot enough to cause serious burns if you're barefoot, and they warned us about it when we first came in. Our dog hated the grate and stayed away from it, but young children (or even a careless adult) could easily get seriously burned.

There was a closet with hangers in the bathroom but no shelves, no drawers, nowhere to store unpacked clothes. The cabin is spacious enough for one to be added. I can't understand why they haven't provided this simple convenience.

There is a full kitchen, but it's quite small. It's also poorly stocked. There were no large bowls or casserole dishes in which to heat food in the microwave, just a few small dishes. The kitchen could accommodate one person, but there's absolutely no room for two.

Also, there was no easy chair. The two little wooden chairs were uncomfortable and fairly useless.

My husband wanted me to give Woodland Park Manor two stars, but it wasn't all bad.The cabin has a fireplace, and that was nice. There's a nice selection of movies in the office. One wall is glass and it gives a view of the surrounding terrain. The bathroom was adequate, and everything was clean. Plus it's close to town. But I wouldn't stay here again.

Room Tip: If you book, don't choose 5a.
