“Secret Garden indeed”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

My husband and I, unfortunately, have not had a chance yet to actually stay at the cottage, but thanks to the gracious hosts, Patsy and Phil, we were allowed an opportunity to visit and enjoy the Secret Garden. As this is still an early spring, we can only imagine how much more the garden has to offer when it is in full bloom! And the cottage, indeed, is so secluded, that we nearly missed it! We will be back and this time we are going to stay!

Thank you for your review of your recent visit to the Secret Garden! We appreciate comments and feedback from a Trip Advisor regular, who is also a professional photographer and a garden enthusiast. We enjoyed taking you around the garden and recounting the history of the garden's beginning in the early 50's. We look forward to your next visit to Inverness. Sincerely, Phi and Patsy, owners

Dates for this place fill fast, so hurry. I booked months ahead. We visited the Inverness Secret Garden Cottage for a few days this January (2014). It's as nice as ever. Even though it was overcast and it rained lightly on the morning we left, I loved the winter garden. The branches are colorful and there are several blooms.

The sun peeped through the overcast several times. I snapped several photos.

We stayed in the cottage most of our visit. So cozy, light, secluded, and quiet (there was a short bit of machine blowing from a garden worker and a short visit from an insurance man), otherwise it was a quiet visit. The cottage owners said they would be more careful of schedules in the future. They generously offered to make it up and were willing to accommodate our suggestions. Very amenable.

My husband and I plan to stay in the Inverness Secret Garden Cottage again in the near future. We heartily suggest you do the same.

Room Tip: There is really only one room to choose in this cottage. I especially appreciate the cleanliness of...

Thank you for the snappy title and great review! We appreciate the care you take with the cottage and your friendly comments. You took advantage of some rare, mild winter weather here in Point Reyes! We look forward to your next visit...don't worry...the insurance company visit takes place only every 2 years! Sincerely, Phil & Patsy

We love Pt Reyes and had been planning this trip for months. And then we arrived - all the gorgeous National Seashore walks and views were closed because of government shutdown! But our vacation was rescued because we stayed (for the first time, but it won't be the last!) at the Inverness Secret Garden Cottage. It is hosted with such loving care and attention to every detail - creating beauty, comfort, privacy - I mean really, Phil and Patsy have thought of everything! And the garden is magical. Well, I can't say enough, and we hope to return next year.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! Despite the National Park closure, you were able to utilize the alternative opportunities in the Point Reyes area. It probably helped that your Red Sox team advanced in the MLB playoffs! Sincerely, Phil & Patsy

This beautiful cottage is located in a spectacular setting - the ideal place for a romantic getaway. Clean, comfortable and well-equipped with all kinds of hospitable amenities. We especially enjoyed the outdoor tub and the view of Tomales Bay. Highly recommend. We can't wait to return for another three days of bliss.

We're glad you enjoyed the cottage and the outdoor bath house...the perfect place to bird-watch, moon-watch, listen to nocturnal creatures in the forest, or just soak in the steamy hot water. We look forward to your next visit! Phil & Patsy, owners

We enjoyed a wonderful mini-retreat at the Inverness Secret Garden Cottage. The cottage, garden, and the temple-like gazebo were simply magical. We could have sat in the gazebo for hours contemplating the view, the peace, the hooting of nearby owls, and the buzzing of hummingbirds. We enjoyed wandering in the garden, too; It has a delightful variety of plants, and I'm glad we were there while many were in bloom. We hope to return soon for a longer stay.

I have never been so awestruck...and saying to myself, "I'm going to stay here"!! I felt as tho I was stepping onto a pallet of art! Not only is it gorgeous but Phil and Patsy gave us privacy & took care that we had everything we needed. I loved being in the woods and yet close to every where we wanted to go. I certainly felt recharged after our stay at "The Secret Garden Cottage" August 14-22, 2013. Phil suggested alot of places to eat and hike. We did all of them and I couldn't be happier...by the way, the food is excellent no matter where you go!

I had the pleasure of spending two nights in the cottage a few weeks back and it was truly a memorable stay. First, Point Reyes is one of my favorite treasures in the Bay Area. The cottage perfectly captures the magic of the environment. It's just a stones throw from Tomales Bay SP (you can even access a hiking trail just up the road from the cottage) and a quick drive to Point Reyes National Seashore. The cottage is embraced in the regions rugged beauty, however, it is fully equipped, tastefully decorated, and run by a wonderful couple. We only had the chance to meet Phil who truly understands hospitality. He is warm and helpful and walked us through everything we needed for our stay in the cottage, and also shared information regarding the area and things to do. There space was also filled with wonderful touches - slippers, cozy robes, breakfast fare (cereal, coffee, fruit), and even an outdoor soaking tub! I should also add the it was immaculate - from the lines to the floor. It is evident that the owners take pride in this space and fully embrace their guests. While the area does boast some nice accommodations, unless I was camping, I can't imagine staying anywhere else! Thank you Phil!

We appreciate that you have taken the time to write such a comprehensive and well-done review. We do encourage guests to experience the seldom-used Johnston Trail in Tomales Bay State Park, so close and a perfect way to start your day without getting into your car. We look forward to your return visit! Sincerely, Patsy & Phil, owners
