“Location was great to travel around in Southern California”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2011

We were in Southern California touring Disneyland, Sea World and Hollywood, and chose this Howard Johnson Inn after reading the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. The hotel doesn't sit directly adjacent to the freeway so it is nice and quiet. Front desk was efficient and very friendly. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. It had a mini refrigerator, microwave and free WIFI in room. Location was great to travel around in Southern California just mins. away from Disneyland. Plenty of food and restaurant nearby. We will come back again in short future.

The title says it all. Everything was great at this hotel--room, staff, breakfast, etc--but I called my first evening to say the heat wasn't working. Someone came to temporarily fix it, said it would start working in ten minutes, and that the mechanical people couldn't come till the next day to fix it permanently. I fell asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night , it was freezing, the temporary fix didn't work. Someone finally came around noon. Claimed to have fixed it. They didn't. Complained again. Finally, around 4 pm, someone fixed it right. I wasn't offered any compensation for being in a cold room all night and most of the morning. When I mentioned that to the manager, I was offered 3,000 M.R. points but (a) I shouldn't have had to ask; (b) 3,000 points are worth perhaps $30, not really sufficient for the trouble; and (c) they haven't shown up on my account yet.

Still, everything else was so good that I give the place 3 stars. But I don't think it's too much to ask to have a room where the heat works when evening temps are in the 40s.

The hotel far exceeded expectations and is by far the best value for money of any hotel I have stayed in (and as a road warrior - I have stayed in many). The hotel and rooms are modern and clean. The breakfast is fresh and varied. Most importantly the staff is proffesional, courteous and goes out of their way for the guests. The management listens to suggestions and often time follow them. The patio area has an awesome fire pit, pool, hot tub and occasionaly the hotel plays sports events on a lage outdoor screen.

Loved this hotel, stayed for 4 nights and found it as comfortable as home. The highlights for us were the helpful staff, pool, spa and courtyard area. The pool was a good size for some lap swimming, exercise room was good too. Free wireless internet worked in our room worked well too and the business center always had a spare workstation available. We traveled with our teen and we were all comfortable at night with our teen using the hide a bed in the living room-bedroom was a bit small but comfortable and bathroom could only be accessed off the bedroom. We enjoyed cooking meals in the kitchen which was well furnished and we enjoyed a barbecue in the courtyard- well furnished with patio tables, a fire pit and amazing palm trees.
The breakfasts better then found in most hotels with a new hot entree everyday and the evening reception 4 x per week was nice with wine, beer and what could be considered a light supper all complimentary. Of course if you tired of cooking there were several restaurants right next door. We picked this location to be between Anaheim and the beaches which worked well. Enjoyed it so much we choose to spend an extra 2 nights and drive into LA( about 60 minutes-on the weekend) daily rather then moving onto a hotel in LA . We were given a choice of floor and view -we choose the courtyard view but next time I would choose an upper floor street view- now that I realize it would have given us a great view of the Huntington Bay area Only complaint was light on cleaning over the Christmas break- so by the evening a bit of mud stayed on the floor in the hallway by the elevators or too long and housekeeping neglected to clean our room 1 day. Management was very apologetic when this was pointed out which was nice.

Only spent one night on a business trip to Costa Mesa. Loved the convenience to John Wayne. Clean large comfortable room. Very nice breakfast. There was someone smoking close to my room. The 2 nice folks at the front desk did everything they could to move me. By the time they found a different hotel (Residence was booked) the smokers stopped and the room aired out. Would definitely go back on business in the area

This is the third time my family has stayed at this hotel, and I find myself looking forward to the hotel just as much as the theme park. Personnel are universally friendly and helpful; the apartment-like rooms are so welcoming; location and amenities just right for the price. Once again I'm struck by how much you get here compared to other places you could stay. Parking is free. High-speed Internet is free. The breakfast is free (and has lots of variety). Even the cable TV lineup is good (and how important is it to have Animal Planet and cartoons when traveling with kids? Essential!). It's easy to find, close to the airport and transportation (but utterly soundproofed: you'll never hear a jet or a big rig). Grocery store no more than a mile away so you can fill up that kitchen. Beds comfortable, hot water ample, rooms airy and well-ventilated. Nice pool and hot tub. All-night mini store in the lobby with much more than the usual disposable razors and nail clippers: there's Ben and Jerry's, wine, beer, and other goodies. It's our kind of place.

We were in Irvine to look at the campus of UCI for our daughter, and chose this Residence Inn after reading the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. The hotel doesn't sit directly adjacent to the freeway (like the Hyatt or Marriott) .. so it is nice and quiet. Front desk was efficient and friendly. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Didn't use the kitchen, but it had a full size refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and small cooktop. My only small complaint is the showerhead .. which was just o.k. But I'm sort of picky about showerheads with good water pressure.

The breakfast buffet offered eggs, potatoes, sausages, waffles, hot and cold cereals, and the typical assortment of breads/pastries. There were quite a few people in the breakfast area .. but it's adjacent to the pool/BBQ patio where there are plenty of extra tables and chairs, so we ate our breakfast outdoors in the warm morning sunshine. :o)

The room rate also includes FREE PARKING! Unheard of for the most part with most of the hotels in the area. And free internet as well. Finally a place that gets what people are looking for when trying to decide on reserving a hotel!
