Wonderful food and great service!
We went there for a family birthday, and they gave the birthday boy a free piece of pecan pie! (Peach cobbler could be had instead.) They serve free soft serve vanilla ice cream with regular cake ice cream cones, when you purchase your meal from them. (No birthday needed for the ice cream.) Three in our party could not have the ice cream because of the guar gum in it, but the others who could have it liked it a lot.
Their menu mostly has a selection of meats, BBQ sauces, waffle fries, onion rings called 'tanglers', fried okra, rolls, and the biggest baked potatoes our family has ever seen. We ordered them with most of the fixings on them , like cheddar cheese, green onions, margerine, and sour cream. Ours came with the brisket meat, which has no MSG or gums added into it. The meat was full of flavor, tender, and moist. DELICIOUS! And best of all, no migraine afterwards!
My husband had the plate of shaved meat with BBQ sauce, (he's on the Atkins diet,) and found it to be tender and flavorful, and one of my kids had the BBQ ribs. My kid raved about the ribs. This surprised me, for this kid is a VERY picky eater and is quite hard to please. The rest of us had the huge baked potatoes with the brisket and fixings. We will DEFINITELY return again for more!!
All of the ingredients for their foods are listed on the Dickies web site, so it was easy for us to find a few things that did not have MSG or other ingredients that mimic it, such as Zantham gum and guar gum. We could have the onion tanglers as long as we told them not to put any seasoning on them.
There was a minor problem with the double charge for an order of onion tanglers, and this was quickly and happily corrected by the manager and owner of the store. (He was a nice man to chat with and was very pleasant.)
There is some outdoor tables in the general eating area out front of the entrance, which might be nice come summer time.
The ambiance inside gives a distinct country flair, with checkered table cloths and old classic rock and roll music playing in the back ground. There were several families there when we went for dinner (I think it was on a Thursday,) and there were plenty of high chairs for the little ones.
They really tried to please us, and were sensitive to our unique dietary needs. I can't praise this place enough!
