My wife and I stopped in here for lunch and cocktails a couple of weeks ago. The newly renovated hotel is wonderful and the bar is both dark and comfortable. The way it should be. Our drinks were made perfectly and considering the barkeep was pouring Whistlepig Rye, $10 was actually quite reasonably priced. Food was good, but not mind blowing. We will be back soon.

First I just want to say the service was excellent and as another reviewer pointed out the atmosphere was just awkward. Some light music for back ground noise would do well here as we could hear other diners conversations and was fairly certain they could hear us so bring your inside voice here. The food was good but I expected more for the price. My boyfriend said his Rib Eye steak was just okay, tender enough but not a lot of flavor. We had the mushroom risotto which was excellent and I had the Hangar steak with root vegetables, the steak was good and the vegetables were really good, I could have made a meal out of the vegetables and the risotto alone.

If you are visiting the small historic area around Jackson, Ca, be sure to make plans for dinner at Stanley's. This 160 year old building has recently been renovated into a excellent place to have dinner and spend the weekend. I had the filet mignon and mashed potatoes. They were excellent! My husband had the pork chop and it was cooked perfectly. Great drinks and wine list. We stayed upstairs in the newly renovated rooms at the National Hotel. BEAUTIFUL! If you want to treat your darling to a wonderful weekend getaway, come to the Sierra foothills for a day of wine tasting, dine at Stanley's and stay at the National Hotel. You will love it!

On hearing there was a new chef, we booked a table for Friday night at this restaurant in the elegantly restored hotel in Jackson. We very much enjoyed the local wines, the baked potato and the mushroom barley, but, sadly, that was all. We ordered small filet steaks, medium rare. To our surprise they were fibrous throughout. We needed the industrial sized knives that come with all steaks to saw them into edible pieces, but these were tasteless. Although we love Brussels sprouts, the much-touted ones we were served just tasted like soy sauce. We went home crushed and snacked on chips.

We enjoyed a birthday dinner with friends at Stanley's Steakhouse. It is located in the gold-rush era National Hotel, which has been beautifully restored. The food and service was extraordinary, particularly for a small town in the Sierra foothills. Most of us ordered steak, and everyone enjoyed the meal immensely. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable, and the chef came to the table twice to make sure everything was OK. The interval between salad and entree was a bit long, no doubt because they made sure that all eight entrees came out at the same time. Each steak came with a choice of 'presentations' or sides. They included mushroom barley, two types of potatoes or roasted vegetables, each served with a different delicious sauce. Overall, it was a memorable experience.
