We found this to be a great getaway place. A lovely hotel with a fantastic restaurant. There is a lot of great things to do locally which includes some great wine tasting from local wineries and various fun day trips. The hotel staff is very accomodating and makes sure you have a great stay. Haven't seen Flo yet but I sense she is watching over the staff to make sure they are taking care of the guests.

There is a great package for 2 people per room from the National Hotel in Jamestown, CA (near Gold Country!) that includes dinner, overnight, breakfast and theatre tickets at one of the local theaters. We have taken advantage of this package several times and are always delighted. The plays are very professional, the dinner choices are from the full menu and include dessert (food is excellent), and the accommodations are quaint.
The rooms are well-appointed, all but one with private bath, and most have double beds. We found it quite adequate for one night.
There is also a full bar and delightful staff ready to take care of every need.

We think that our theatre companies here in Sonora are pretty special, and we're glad that you are guests who enjoy our accommodations package. A great dinner, a marvelous play, a lovely room, and breakfast in the morning... a perfect getaway, don't you agree? Thanks for taking time to let us know how much you enjoyed your stay.

We've always loved staying at B&Bs. That said, the 1859 Historic National Hotel does have bed and does serve a breakfast buffet. BUT, there are no common rooms, no place to get a wine glass or a midnight glass of water, no cookies or snack for late evenings, no meeting with the owner and getting insights about the area. I enjoy meeting other travelers and socializing - not happening here! The room was clean and well decorated and the breakfast was good.

Would like to say, thank you for the critique. Please allow me to say the following; there are many different types of b&b's and no two that are alike. Ours is a historical hotel with original saloon and acclaimed restaurant. We, the present owners, have been in operation for 40 years (1974) and operating as a b&b since 1981. As the proprietor, I attempt to converse with all of our guests, generally meeting with them during dinner. I am sorry that we did not connect. Because I am generally working until 11:00 pm, I am rarely here for breakfast. Instead, one of my two assistant managers is always here at that time and they have been with me for a period of 16 & 14 years. They are personable, knowledgeable and the best at offering insights about the area and often go the extra mile by printing directions, hours of operation, etc.

We always supply complimentary bottles of water in our rooms and offer the largest assortment of Foothill wines to be found anywhere. Additionally, our patio offers lots of comfortable seating as well as in our original saloon. Purchasing of food or cocktails is not necessary for any guest who wishes to sit & relax.

It is always important that our guests are happy and we try to accommodate their needs. I hope that this response helps.

My husband and I found this piece of heaven on earth! We have stayed many times and will continue to return. You feel as though you take a step back in time; to the good old days. The hotel's décor is awesome of the time it represents. We enjoy the wonderful food at the restaurant as well. Everything is fresh and prepared so awesome. The desserts are a must; cheesecake is the best we have ever had, and I enjoy the tableside preparation of the other desserts. The service tops off everything, you really feel welcome!!

There is a lot to do in the area; Jamestown has 3 wine tasting rooms; you can fish and enjoy the outdoors at Pinecrest Lake; go to Yosemite for a day, the options are endless.

Room Tip: All rooms are wonderful..

An 11th anniversary stay met every expectation in this wonderful hotel. After a terrific afternoon of sightseeing, scenic drives, wineries, and biker bars, we made our way to the National 1859 for a short rest, a bath in the double tub, and prep for dinner and a little night music.

Jamestown/Railtown is everything you could ask for in a Gold Country experience. There are museums aplenty, historic buildings, book and rock stores, and thankfully, very few tourist stores. And this is the heart of Calaveras County, so bring your frogs!

Food choices are good here, with something for everyone. The hotel bar is well stocked, and drinks are reasonable. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but breakfast came from the same kitchen with a variety of breads, quiche, cereals, yogurt, and fresh fruit, juice, etc.

The hotel is tastefully decorated, and the beds are very comfortable; The entire hotel has been restored with care, from the tiled, two-head showers to the chain-pull toilets, and the second floor balcony. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. This is a five star hotel without the five star stuffiness and faux stucco dressing.

Be sure and write in your room's guestbook when stay here; and please do yourself the favor of reading a few entries..... oh, and enjoy the ghosts! LOL!

Room Tip: All the rooms are terrific, but windows have no screens (which we like)

We stayed at the National one night. We found it well cared for and a special place to stay. We stayed in room 7. Comfy bed, nice bathroom - everything we expected. The food downstairs was everything other reviewers have raved about. Try the apricot Bon Bon dessert - your mind will be blown. Yummmmmmmmmmmm

Flo is a sneak little ghost, Fru... we're sorry you didn't have the opportunity to meet her. It's always enjoyable for us to read that a guest was happy with their stay here, and even more so when we know that they changed plans to spend an additional night with us. Thank you for taking time to write your review; we enjoy reading it and have passed along your greetings to our bartender, Cheryl.
