This place was great . The staff where very friendly and helpful, sitting at the bar at night was fantastic , as was taking cocktails too the balcony . The room was a through back in time and had everything apart from aircon , but the ceiling fan helped . The one down side was I did not see the ghost :)

stayed there july 4th.was greeted by the owner and the lady at the front desk.they acted like I was their very first customer ever and treated me like I was the most important person in the world and they were not phony about it.most places go through the motions as they have seen thousands of customers and just want to get you checked in.i could tell right off that this was a first class operation.the front desk lady took us up to our room and showed us around.we had room#1 and loved it,it's got a great view of the main street and the door to the balcony is right outside the room door.i needed some ice so I went down to the bar and the bartender was very nice and helpful.we had dinner plans in Sonora but I sure wish I would have had dinner here.the people we met on the balcony went on and on about how great their dinner was at the national.well next time for sure.the breakfast was very nice also.all in all it was a great experience and left my wife and I with nice memories of our 25th anniversary.

We did not get to stay here because of time constraints, but we did check it out and chat with the man running the front desk. The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We plan to return to this one!

Samantha, thanks for taking time to mention us in your travels. We, too, wish you had more time to spend here. Unfortunately, vacation plans don't always provide us with the time we need. We look forward to your return.

We eat there every time we visit Jamestown as we have family that live there and actually work at the National. We have never had an issue with our food until now. It shouldn't matter is she gets her meal at a discount, we don't and we were the guests paying. Disappointed in the quality of the food. Small, over cooked steaks!

Our executive chef of 18 years was on duty this day when guests ordered steak and eggs for their breakfast. It was 15 minutes before the closing of brunch and he was in a cranky mood, complaining loud enough that several of the employees heard him.. Indeed, he over cooked the steaks, a result of not paying attention. For brunch the steaks are much smaller than then the regular dinner ones, but should never have been over cooked. If so, then we should have prepared the meal anew.
Tom has apologized and wishes to invite them back as his guest. He has extended an invitation to them so that he can make amends.

We did a road trip in California and needed a place to stay between Yosemite and Sonoma so we researched the gold country and came upon this hotel. Perhaps it was the story of the ghost named Flo that peeked our interest, but we were so happy we chose this particular hotel to stay overnight. Upon entering Jamestown, you really go back in time. The buildings date back to 1865 but the service is right on point. Upon arriving we were greeted and provided with room keys. When have you ever stayed in a hotel that had keys in lieu of the plastic cards ? We were given a tour of the hotel, one room pretty and in period then the next. While the rooms do not contain a television, we were able to sit on the porch and simply enjoy the evening with a bottle of wine we had purchased that afternoon from a local tasting room (Gianelli Wines). The room comes with a breakfast. A buffet was set up in the dining room with fresh quiche, french toast, hard boiled eggs, fruit, juices, coffee. It was so very nice and yummy.
We did have dinner at the hotel the evening we arrived and the food was very good. We cleaned our plates and the hubbys had dessert. Cherries Jubilee done table side was a nice way to end a wonderful dinner.
Be sure to stay in Jamestown and enjoy the history of this town. One word of advise, many of the shops were closed during the week. And by the way......neither couple had any Flo sightings.

Room Tip: There are a few rooms that the windows face a brick building. Be sure to ask for the rooms opposite...

Thank you, Mary Ann, for letting others know about your enjoyable experience with us. Our friends at Gianelli Vineyards will appreciate knowing that theirs was the wine of choice. Our balcony is such a lovely place to relax in the evening... many friendships among our guests had their beginnings here. We hope you have a reason to come back to California and visit us again!

Found this place online, and it exceeded my expectations. My husband and I were bound for Yosemite and the Eastern Sierra the weekend after Memorial Day, and we wanted to stay at a historic B&B in the Gold Country. The room and furnishings were very charming, and I loved the Teddy Bear on the bed. The hotel was quiet and clean, and the restaurant provided very good food and service. Decent wine, very good food (we ordered pasta), and a lovely atmosphere. The staff made us feel like we were special patrons. I particularly liked the lighted magnifying makeup mirror in the room for makeup application. I highly recommend this hotel, and plan to revisit it on my next trip to the Gold Country.

We found this to be a great getaway place. A lovely hotel with a fantastic restaurant. There is a lot of great things to do locally which includes some great wine tasting from local wineries and various fun day trips. The hotel staff is very accomodating and makes sure you have a great stay. Haven't seen Flo yet but I sense she is watching over the staff to make sure they are taking care of the guests.
