“Idyllic Setting at Rivers End”
Reviewed 21 February 2013

Located on the cliffside overlooking where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean, these comfy cabins allow you to simply unplug and take a deep breath. We had just one night at Rivers End and it was delightful and incredibly peaceful. Dinner in the resturant is always a treat, but this was our first overnight stay. The late afternoon and sunset hour were stormy and rainy and that made the setting around the cozy fireplace with a glass of wine all the better. Cabins might be a bit spartan for some, but we found them just right. In the morning, we awoke to harbor seals frolicking in the river mouth below the deck and we watched them for a couple of hours...enchanting! Later in the morning we drove to the Goat Rock state beach accross the river and hiked out to the river's outlet. It was beautiful!

We really enjoyed our stay in one of the cabins at River’s End. The cabin was basic but really clean. The wood is coming off of some of the furniture, but the important things like the matrass is top quality. The view from the cabin is exceptional and you really get some peace and quiet there. We were on our way from San Francisco to McKinleyville so this was the perfect in-between spot for us. Unfortunately the weather was pretty bad, so we couldn’t really see all the beauty and views that you would get to see on a sunny day. We also had dinner at the restaurant which was exceptionally good but also rather pricey. Definitely worth it though, when you are staying at one of the cabins or passing through and in need of a high quality meal.

Stayed for one night in Cabin 1. Good parking right next to cabin. An incredible view of the estuary and ocean from the bed and balcony and comfy leather chair for curling up in and reading books. A real getaway from TV, mobiles, internet etc. so stock up with good books. Recommend taking binoculars to watch the antics of the seals on the sandbank. Bed very comfy and stove came on automatically in chill of early morning to keep us a warm. Appreciated fridge and coffee maker and took grapefruit and pastries with us to enjoy our own breakfast on the balcony. Had one problem with flush on loo by staff sorted it immediately.

Cabins are warn and very comfortable. The balcony overlooked the river and ocean. The staff was helpful and very courteous. For a quiet, relaxing vacation away from phones, televisions and internet access, highly recommended.

I recently stayed in room #5, which is small, but quite manageable for one or two. It’s very private, with a nice covered deck, and has great views. I had one problem, which the management was right on top of and very accommodating. As has been said – no TV, no WiFi, no cell coverage. Just you, your thoughts, maybe a book, an iPod with serene tunes is nice.

One thing specific to room 5 that you should be aware of. It is directly under the dining room, so there can be some noise. Not bad during the dining hours, but for a short time at late clean up, it does interrupt what is otherwise a delightfully sound free experience.

Stayed here for one night with a large group of girlfriends in July. The location is just gorgeous, as it overlooks where the Russian River intersects the Pacific Ocean. Although the cabins are very cozy, they are a little basic and run down. We stayed in cabin #2 which conveniently had a parking spot right next to it. Inside the cabin was one king sized bed, an oversized leather chair, a leather love seat and a fireplace all situated in front of two huge windows so you can take in the great views. The bed was unbelievably comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. The shades that cover the windows are the old vinyl roll up ones and they were actually a little tricky to use. They should be changed because they really cheapen the rooms, as does the dark brown carpet that makes the rooms look dingy. My biggest disappointment was with the bathroom which seemed more like a summer camp's bathroom than a $150/night cabin's. The extremely dated formica countertop was separating from the wall and there was water damage on the trim along the wall. The counter is also very low, abnormally low. There is only a shower, not a bath tub and anyone taller than 6 feet would be hard pressed to fit in it since the ceiling is low and slants down toward the wall as well. The bathroom is equipped with a small mini fridge, hairdryer, and coffee maker with complimentary tea. The toiletries are Bath & Body Works ones which were very nice. Since our group stayed in multiple cabins, we got to peak into the other ones and cabin #2 actually seemed larger than the others. Our cabin had more floor space which meant an air mattress could comfortably fit on the ground in case you need to sleep more people, which we did. Something of note is that River's End is meant to be secluded so there is no phone in the room, no wi-fi, no TV, and no cell phone service, so plan accordingly because this makes getting directions, planning meals, etc impossible. In summary, the location is above average but the accommodations themselves are just average. If the cabins underwent a light renovation, it would improve the property and increase the value for your money.

This was the perfect place for us to say goodbye to Route 1 after a leisurely two week trip up from Los Angeles. As other reviewers have pointed out the view from the cabins here is just terrific. Crashing waves, beautiful sunsets, - can't be beaten. The cabin we had (no. 4), was simply furnished but comfortable and there was a balcony to sit on to admire the view. If you are a television addict or need to use your mobile/cell phone however this will not be the place for you. Television not provided and no signal for 'phone either at the cabins or for some distance around. The restaurant is very good indeed and has an excellent wine list (as it ought to considering the area it's in). Would recommend for a short stay.

Room Tip: There are five cabins available. You may need to check but I believe 4 and 5 are the roomiest.
