On arrival we knew that the building was in need of renovation and we did n't get a great vibe from the surrounding area. Boarded up Windows on the house opposite, on check in the owner was sitting behind a security partition like in a bank !! There appeared to be a mixture of tourists and long term people staying there and we were not put more at ease by guys hanging around looking through windows at the Motel. Sadly inside the Motel it did not get better, the bed covers were dirty, the phone (which was restricted to 911 and local) was sticky, the bathroom was not a place where you wanted to hang around.

It is close to the Joshua tree park entrance but when we visited the park we exited from another entrance at 29 palms. That area seems to be nicer than Joshua tree and has more eating options.

A shame that we stayed at this Motel as the Joshua Tree park is very interesting.

You get what you pay for. Not so clean, and refrigerator needed to be plugged in. The pool was scuzzy. But on the bright side, service was friendly and the location was very near the park entrance (though not walking distance to food or drinks).

Would have been much nicer if there were a place to sit outside.

This was our first trip to the desert, and coming from a big city it was a huge change. It felt almost eery how quiet and how relatively few people occupied Joshua Tree. If it weren't for the wonderful service from Safari Motor Inn, it would have been a stressful trip. I never had to worry about my belongings or my car because the owners were very careful to watch over their business. I am a photographer, and so is my boyfriend, and we carry around a ton of photography equipment at any given time, but we never worried about it at the motel. The owners were also very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. They are also very honest people. I left behind some equipment by accident and they shipped it back to me. All in all, it was a great experience with wonderful service. I will definitely visit again.

Booked two rooms for two nights in the off season. Had major car trouble day before booked stay so called to left them know we would be delayed. Were told that was okay. Found out car repairs would take two days, so called back early afternoon of first booked night and were told we would have to pay for rooms anyway. No sympathy. Charged us full price for two rooms for one night. Were promised a voucher to be used later in year (after peak season) but this never came through. We were planning to go back to the area but will definitely avoid this place.

We stay at Safari Inn 4 to 5 times a year. The service is always great and we love the proximity to Joshua Tree National Park where we hike. The hotel doesn't have dogs barking or kids slamming doors. It's mostly adults enjoying the outdoor life in Joshua Tree. We stayed at another hotel in the area once because Safari Inn was booked. We didn't care for the other hotel and now we book in advance to be sure we get a room.

Found this place online and wanted something local to the Park.

The facility is in need of some work. Rooms are small, old, poorly appointed and smell. The bathrooms are outdated and the old tile grouting is moldy.

The reception area has several notes posted from previous visitors saying how great the place is. They are all from at least 5 plus years ago.

The front desk gal was friendly. When I asked about a local place for dinner, she gave me a map, named a good place to eat and then said it closes at 3pm. It was already 4 by then. Hmmmm?

It would be better to travel a few miles east towards 29 Plams to find a nicer/newer facility. The places closer to 29 Palms also have better pricing.

We stayed at the Safari Inn for 2 nights while visiting Joshua Tree--it's budget, not the Four Seasons. But a great location, walking distance (if it's not unbearably hot) to the Park Rock Cafe (great sanwiches, quiche--will do box lunches for the day) and the Crossroads Cafe and Tavern (they serve beer and wine, not a true tavern, and the menu leans to CA cuisine--great burgers with avocado). Skip the Edchadas mexican place in 29 Palms. Safari Inn was clean, dated but safe and totally convenient. There's a fridge and microwave in the room, kind of handy for all the water you will buy and want to keep cool.
