We had 4 families camp at the campground in July. Our spots were perfect...we affectionately called it the cul-de-sac. The campground is clean and beautiful.

I recommend going on the hikes. We had trail access at our site and we went on a wonderful 2 mile hike one morning. It was half up hill so make sure you can handle it.

Julian is only a couple miles away and made for a great lunch trip. It was nice to get out of the dirt for a bit and have a meal in an air conditioned spot. Don't forget the pie...it's to die for!!

The only negative were the bugs. There were a ton of flies, sand bees, and ticks. The ticks were all over the bathrooms. They were on the ceiling so you constantly worried about them falling on your head. A trantula (sp?) was in the boys bathroom and while the boys thought it was cool they also didn't want to go in. LOL

The only thing that would have made it better, besides less bugs, was a water spot nearby. The days were hot and a pool or lake would have been perfect.

Excellent camping! We stayed for 2 nights in camping Area 3. It was really beautiful. The first morning we woke up at 5:30am because all the birds were out singing! It was nice to wake up to that instead of the freeway/planes/helicopters I am used to hearing!

The bathroom facilities were clean, however the showers (paid showers, 50 cents for 5 minutes) were a bit hairy! However, even if they looked sparkling clean I would still be wearing flip flops in them!

If you enjoy the outdoors and camping you won’t be disappointed.

Late May...surrounded by green trees, grass, Manzanitas, squirrels, wild turkeys! We've camped here before, but I don't remember it being so clean & beautiful. They don't have full hook-ups for RVs, but they do have electricity which is nice. There's a sewage dump station there as well.

If you like to hike, this is a great spot. The grounds are just spectacular, and it's only about a 10-minute drive (tops) to the lovely, historic town of Julian.

We've stayed for a night or two each time we've camped here. I would recommend a 3 night stay so everyone can spend some time in town & in the park at a leisurely pace.

We have been camping at William Heise State Park several times over the last few years. What drew us to it were the little cabins you could rent to camp in. We are beyond tents and the rustic cabins are a great alternative. There are lots of trails to go hiking and fishing at Lake Cuyamaca is not far away.

We last visited this park with a smaller motorhome, and now the size restrictions prevent us from going there. But it was a great place to go with kids, lots of hiking trails and a playground. Since the big fires here, campfires are restricted everywhere. This is a perfect place to go from fall to spring.
