Wonderful camp sites, beautiful oak trees. Great surrounding area to visit - Julian and Santa Ysabel.

We stayed at a B&B just east of Julian (one mi). We wanted to find a place not too far away where we could be in nature and do some hiking. William Heise State Park was just the place! It's a big beautiful park in the mtns with some hiking trails to enjoy. I think taking pics is a must... as you are surrounded by beauty and nature! It is a State Park.. not a free park. I think we paid $5 or $6 for day use. I like the park very much and will return for a visit and hike the next time we stay in or around Julian.. :)

Went camping here for 2 nights in August. The bathrooms were clean, the showers had spiders in them and were coin-operated (bring shower shoes!) and the campground itself was clean. We had a nice campsite away from other big family groups (we were traveling as a couple so were looking for a little more peace and quiet) but for families it's great! There are a few hiking trails right by the campsites that lead to spectacular views of the mountains. All in all, a great vacation. Nothing better than escaping the city noise and being woken up by birds every morning :) Also, I wouldn't recommend going in the summer as it was pretty hot! I imagine in the fall it's nice, especially because it's apple season in Julian at that time!

We had 4 families camp at the campground in July. Our spots were perfect...we affectionately called it the cul-de-sac. The campground is clean and beautiful.

I recommend going on the hikes. We had trail access at our site and we went on a wonderful 2 mile hike one morning. It was half up hill so make sure you can handle it.

Julian is only a couple miles away and made for a great lunch trip. It was nice to get out of the dirt for a bit and have a meal in an air conditioned spot. Don't forget the pie...it's to die for!!

The only negative were the bugs. There were a ton of flies, sand bees, and ticks. The ticks were all over the bathrooms. They were on the ceiling so you constantly worried about them falling on your head. A trantula (sp?) was in the boys bathroom and while the boys thought it was cool they also didn't want to go in. LOL

The only thing that would have made it better, besides less bugs, was a water spot nearby. The days were hot and a pool or lake would have been perfect.

Excellent camping! We stayed for 2 nights in camping Area 3. It was really beautiful. The first morning we woke up at 5:30am because all the birds were out singing! It was nice to wake up to that instead of the freeway/planes/helicopters I am used to hearing!

The bathroom facilities were clean, however the showers (paid showers, 50 cents for 5 minutes) were a bit hairy! However, even if they looked sparkling clean I would still be wearing flip flops in them!

If you enjoy the outdoors and camping you won’t be disappointed.
